    Ratcheting Wrenches

Well…less than a month since I’ve had my wrench set and the 3/8 wrench is a goner. It’s locked up and won’t go in any direction. NAPA was good about warrantying it, but definitely making me nervous/regret my choice already.

    “Cheater” 3 seat buggy build/assembly

No more hoist - trans mount next. Those motor mounts came with the chassis. I just repurposed them for the 350. And yes, the engine is going in unpainted. I’m just going to embrace that it’s a 30 year old engine.

    “Cheater” 3 seat buggy build/assembly

Just going to drop a couple of pictures in here with a quick update. It’s a roller, and the motor/trans/Atlas are sitting in position. I should be able to make the motor mounts and trans mount tomorrow and get moving on getting wired and plumbed. I told my wife I was hoping to be done by April...

Jeep guys: boatsides or tubes for your rocksliders?

If I were building another Jeep-based crawler, I’d do boatsides. I’ve tried to buy something from Daves 2-3 times now. I never could get a call back or an email response to my questions about their products, inventory, etc. I’ve completely written them off from my business.

    Ratcheting Wrenches

@zmotorsports that’s encouraging to hear. His comment was that “some of the older drivers are sticklers about it”. Maybe that’s just isolated to this area.

    Ratcheting Wrenches

Warranties seem to be hit or miss with all brands/dealers. I asked the Snap On driver what their warranty is like. He said it’s no questions asked, unless you try to exchange with a different truck than you purchased from. In some instances, drivers won’t warranty a tool that you didn’t purchase...

    Ratcheting Wrenches

My wife was pressing me for a Christmas wish list, so I put these on it, and I’m 100% certain she ran down to NAPA and picked them up. Decided to give Gearwrench a chance. 5/16”-1” reversible. Time will tell if it was a good choice, and how NAPA will, or won’t, swap them if they fail. On a...

    New drill press!

Not as nice as yours Greg, but I picked up this today. Super excited to use it tomorrow. My drilling experiences have been somewhat sketchy as of late, so this should help tremendously.

    Ratcheting Wrenches

I’m not sure who carries Stanley anymore, maybe Walmart?? Even if so, I don’t want sub-par tools to work with. I’d rather upgrade.

    Ratcheting Wrenches

As tempting as it is to try out the Icon line, I’m trying really hard lately to not take the “cheap” option like I’ve been known to do in the past. I’m really trying to embrace the “buy once, cry once” idea, especially when it comes to tools. If I can drop the money now to get a set of tools...

    Ratcheting Wrenches

Gearwrench seems to have a solid track record, but I have to wonder if the modern-day wrenches are built to the same specs/standards as those 20 years ago. It seems that most things have become lower quality at the same price point.

    Ratcheting Wrenches

@zmotorsports thank you for taking the time to write up such a detailed response! The reversible lever is responsible for 2 of my current wrench failures, the third being lack of any engagement in either direction. I think on my next set I will go with a wrench set without reverse levers, as...

    Ratcheting Wrenches

My old Stanley ratcheting wrenches are failing after several years. I believe I bought these when Stanley was still somewhat respectable. Now I’m looking for a new set, and it looks like Gearwrench is a common choice, but I see mixed reviews on longevity. I don’t use them daily in a shop, but I...

    “Cheater” 3 seat buggy build/assembly

Well, this past weekend wasn’t nearly as productive as I had hoped. Between ordering the wrong fuel fittings, and the axle link brackets not working for me, I didn’t make the progress I had hoped. But, I did do a bunch of little things… Most notably, finished welding the truss and ram mount on...

    Passing of Ber Knight

Thought it would be fitting to share the news of Ber Knight’s passing with the group, as I’m sure many of you have memories with him. I’m hoping that I don’t step on the toes of @GER4x4 or @drtsqrl with this post. If they want to do this differently, please feel free to delete this. I received...

    “Cheater” 3 seat buggy build/assembly

Yesterday evening my wife and I worked to get the chassis off of the trailer and into the garage. I didn’t get any pictures because it was sketchy, at best. I finally let my wife text the neighbor, who sent her husband over to give us a hand. It sure was nice to have his help, and a whole lot...

What it looked like when it was previously assembled. Should look quite similar once it’s back together with my parts.
