24 Hours of Lemons Death Valley Rally

My friend kind of wants to do it, I don't have much desire to do it. He doesn't 4x4 or anything, I explained to him that a weekend in Moab has more potential for having to piece my junk back together. Especially if I drive the XJ to Moab. And really we have all been on the trail with people...

Jeep Nathan and Tanja's 99 XJ Build up

WTF I have never heard of that. High performance coolant... huh... I love RME and the internet...

Jeep Nathan and Tanja's 99 XJ Build up

As mentioned by Joe at turbolabs I had a hot oil pan. I checked with an IR gun. Some spots of the oil pan were 350 degrees. Also the stroker gives off a bunch more heat than stock. Now that it is warming up I am getting nervous about the cooling system. The engine has not over heated, I...

Jeep Nathan and Tanja's 99 XJ Build up

Dyno Sheets I am not too worried about actual numbers, I had a motor that was sneaking up on a rebuild, I spent quite a bit more to do more than "just rebuild it". The drivability is way better. The main reason I wanted to get actual numbers is so that I could pass on the info to others. The...

Jeep Nathan and Tanja's 99 XJ Build up

no torque converter I smash gears... but yeah. I know another guy with a recently stroked 4.0 that I think I can talk into getting dynoed. He has a 2000 and doesn't have the smaller than 2 inch exhaust down pipe I have. Yeah I even have a nice scanner now, I guess I can put them in. We are...

Jeep Nathan and Tanja's 99 XJ Build up

Ok so as promised I got the Jeep dynoed post stroker. The original motor was a 1999 4.0L with no modifications other than removed air box (for York OBA) The stroker is all from Clegg Machine. It is a "Stage III" stroker kit with a Stage I cam. Head was ported and valves were enlarged to GM...

    welding a tie rod/drag link

I actually ruined a RS insert by having the TRE in while welding. I now have a nice DOM cheater bar with a weld in bung on one end. Nathan

    Jeep Cherokee subframe damage

This is fairly common on xj's. I have not done it but I have re-enforced mine (before it cracked) I Lean (Carl) has cut some plates in the past, contact him he may be able to make you up some plates. Post #109 I talk about my install of Carl's plate...

Jeep Nathan and Tanja's 99 XJ Build up

Ok so we went out to Rattlesnake on 6/5. It was really nice to be able to use the cruise control in 5th gear on the highway. My wife's comment was "power-wise it seems stock" which is what I was looking for. However the electric fan seems to run all the time. So time for a hood vent. I...

Jeep Nathan and Tanja's 99 XJ Build up

Yes about 600 miles on it. This was one of those things that I really did for on road. With the np231/d300 I didn't feel like I needed any more grunt off road (except that one time I was out on Moab Rim and we were playing on the sand hills and that guy with the V8 in the CJ was blasting up...

Jeep Nathan and Tanja's 99 XJ Build up

I have yet to Dyno the motor but the PCM is learning it. I also got the exhaust done. Motor really likes the none crunched exhaust. I love Mr. Muffler, Ceser, he seems to enjoy the challenge of no friggin room for exhaust. Remember this is what it was; the d60 yoke will get into the down...

    WJ knuckles on a TJ

I need to talk my father in law into this, although he bought high dollar brakes a year or so ago, but he desperately needs to upgrade his OEM steering and track bar. It seems like a fairly cheap upgrade, snag knuckles rotors and calipers from a JY Depending what Carl charges for bracket parts...

Axle width questions. Please help me with my math

I totally agree, I don't see any reason to run a gm SF 9.5 axle on anything. Remember that the only cons on the FF 14 bolt is the size of diff, and weight. Every other category it is great, or fantastic. The typical single rear wheel FF 14 bolt is 67.5 and can be narrowed to 63.5 by...

    LJ steering upgrade?

My father-in-law has a tj with a 2 inch spacer lift. and his tie rods should be replaced so I have been looking out for upgrades. He wants to avoid un-reversible mods... the Currie looks good, this one says 0-6 inches of lift, I believe the currie says 2-6 inches...

    Notch Customs in Lindon

I have them on my xj, they are great. I had to add about an inch to the inside of mine to come close to tire coverage. Of course my width is really really wide for an xj. They seem like the widest available for the xj. I would recommenced them and use them again. They have taken a some...

    Someone tell me why???

I know that I saw something like that on "Trucks" or one of those TV shows where most of the project vehicles must be destroyed or returned completely to stock before they get rid of them. I recall the episode talked about ways they could give the vehicles away to people. If you look into old...

    OrangeSkidPlates Cherokee build Peej2.0

That is what I remember when I looked into using my np435 from my Bronco. I agree I am keeping an eye out for a NSG370 6 Speed manual from the tj's... 6 speeds are cooler than any auto ;) Nathan

DIY oil priming tool for Jeep 4.0L

BTW this worked great. I ran it for over a minute as close to the initial startup as possible. The oil pressure gauge came up past 1/2 way with the drill powering it. I also used the shaft to turn the oil pump so the distributor would drop in correctly. Nathan

Modifying a Jeep 4.0L oil pan for clearance?

I just wanted to update this thread. Yes you can modify an oil pan for clearance. Usually it is done in cars where someone wants to put a bigger motor in or better steering/suspension. I cut it, I had MikeGyver weld it, it seems to have worked out well. I will have to show it to my exhaust...
