07 King 4X4 Challenge!

What Are The Events?

Just in case the link failed to satisfy. The events are as follows. The Inclined Rock Garden, that starts off with small rocks and builds to 4-5'ers at the end. The Nasty Mud Bog gets progressively deeper and deeper. and in 4 years only 2 have made a full run. Truck Pull were you see who can pull a loaded truck the farthest. An arena style race track full of tight turns ruts and bumps. Engineering were the judges will score your ride on the stuff the driving events don't test( how many passengers, creator comforts, and so on). Tire Pit is a a pit filled with tires and water, Log Cross is a bunch of logs staked to the ground with water and deep holes mixed in for fun. The Gauntlet will be ran as a separate event at the end of the day. The Gauntlet is a man made wash that is filled with all the above plus more water and even deeper holes, it is a great way to top off the day.
Each event is worth up to 100 points, but you do not have to enter every event. The idea is to find the most well rounded 4X4 on the planet and have a good time in the processes. This all takes place in front of screaming fans, competitors and team mates.

Didn't two people roll in the Gauntlet last year? I know at least 1 did... And 1 lost a tire (bead). It's a pretty messy thing... The prior I got high centered pretty bad on one of the many (okay, it was the first :p ) woopty woos...

IF you make it through everything, then you have a steep and loose hill climb at the very end....

Delbert(yellow buggie) rolled, toychris(black toy truck) rolled and Chestoscout(green Scout) lost a bead and almost furnished, but the big hill stopped him. I am sure there was loads more carnage on top of that.

There is no mention in the rules of a seatbelt being required, is this an oversite or is one not required?

oops, both driver and spoter do have to have to have and use a seat belt any time they are in contact with the rig when it is in motion. So the spoter may be outside of the rig to spot or what ever, but if he touches it, make sure you are at full stop until he is belted. This is in the hard copy and the web will be corrected. Thanks.

;)

I knew they were required, if for no other reason than liability. Of course safety IS the reason to use them, not just because of a "rule".
Thought I would make sure you knew about it.

I think I will have to make sure I am there this year, if not to compete, at least to watch. It REALLY sounds like a blast.

I would love to see that thing compete :hickey: , looks like you would be in the running.

Maybe, I think Wayne would jump into my class just so he could whoop me though! He seems determend to win! Didn't I read in the yet unposted rules that you have to live in Utah to enter? Ohhh, sorry wayne. :D

 I don't think so, Willis :squint:

I think everyone that is competing is pretty darn competitive, not just me. But what I've noticed the two years that I've competed, that even though everyone wants to always win everything, It's still a lot of fun and the competitors are there to have fun, too.... It's hard to explain. There is no anomosity between people. Lot's of ribbing going, and just lots of good times.

Na we let anyone enter, low standards I guess  . In all we had sevral teams from outside of Utah last year.

Fees are now set in stone, and they are the same as last year. Competitors entrance fees are $50 on or before May 25th and $65 after May 25th, with U4WDA members getting $5 off. Adult spectators pay $7 in advance and $9 at the gate, kids 12 and under are $5 in advance and $7 at the gate. Spectator tickets will be for sale some time in May at Albertsons in Price.

Prize money is also as set as it gets. Each class gets 100% pay back of entrance fees(from that class) to the top 3 finishers and a garuntey of; 1st place $300, 2nd $200, 3rd $100. The 100% pay back should well exceed the grauntey, and there will be prizes from sponsors on top of the cash. Did I forget it's just plain fun, even if you don't win.

Man, it looks like a blast, but they should allow 37s on a daily driver if it passes inspection with them. : )

the rules say the tires and rims have to be DOT approved. Are hummer bead locks approved? On the rim they say military only and have a DOT on them. I have heard both ways.

The Modified class covers both the street legal guys with big meats and the non street legal guys with smaller meats. it is a bit of an interesting class as the non street guys usually have a small edge due to the lack of sheet metal and all, while the street guys seem to do better in the Enginering as they have more creature comforts, passenger seating, and so on.
