1988 Toyota X-Cab

I've owned my truck for almost a year now, but I'm fairly new to the site. I thought I would post up and get some local opinions and support.
Owners Name & City- Jared, Logan Utah.


Make, Model & Year of Vehicle- 1988 Toyota Pickup xtra cab


Engine- 22re


Transmission- w56


T-Case- Gear driven top shift


Axles- Rear - Trucks original housing, Aussie locker, yukon 5.29's
Front - 1985 4runner axle with high steer and 5.29's


Suspension- 63" Chevy leafs out back, Toyota rears up front.


Wheels and Tires- 35" bfg mtrs on 15" aluminum wheels


Favorite Trails- Providence canyon, willard peak, little moab


I didn't know a lot about toyota's before owning this truck and when I first bought it I thought I had a decent platform. I guess it was a start but I want this rig to be very capable and not very problematic...

Are you the one that I sold that block to? I wasn't home when the person who purchased it picked it up. But that looks like the one that I sold on ksl for like $20 or something like that.

Nah that wasn't me, I picked this one up here in Logan from my step brother.

I got my tubes all welded up

And my shackles from davez put on.. now I gotta cut off my old mounts.

I think she's actually ready for some action :greg:

Be careful with this. On my front, I have a setup kinda like yours (my mounts don't go in the frame however) but during the flex cycle, my shackles have been hitting/bending my front body mounts. I am thinking up a way to clearance a section out and then beef them up really good. Just haven't had the time yet. Gathering parts for a rebuild right now

I think if you just notched them an inch or two they'd have good clearance and still be plenty strong.

It doesn't seem like a lot.. but building my spring packs, drilling new holes for the box mount, drilling for the shackle tubes, was all some tedious work.
I guess my truck really has came a long way from when I bought it... it's came a long way from when it used to be a paraplegic with no front end just sitting in the driveway.
I'm just happy with how reliable it is day to day driving to work and being able to go beat up on it a little bit.
But my winch plate is about done and fits up good... I want to relocate my blinkers to the corners and I need to figure out a bumper design so I can be legal still... I'm definitely excited to be doing some of my own fab work on my truck now.

Off topic, this is a front bumper I've been fabbin for the my buddy's Samurai.

My truck's clutch has went out and unfortunately she's been sitting
I'll get that taken care of when the weather cooperates or when I have enough time to spare. I wanna get some snow wheelin in this year so the engine rebuild/replace plans will wait until late winter/early spring. In a perfect world I could just pull the motor and do it all right the first time but there's fun to be had right now.
May as well squeeze every mile out of a tired 22re anyways.

I forgot to mention I traded my chrome grille, trim, and bumper for black. My end of the deal was taking the nasty bumper, but I wanted black, and I'll have my winch bumper made soon enough.

Me and my buddy went for a ride. We took Temple Fork, tried going up to Temple Peak where it was blocked off, and ended up making a loop and exiting through Right Hand. It was ridiculously fun with the little bit of the first snow the trails had.

This is looking south/southeast from the "Temple Flat" area.

This was after the steeper/more difficult section where the snow was about at it's deepest.. It made for a tough section of switchbacks to make it up, but what a blast!!! The rigs did great too! :greg:
