Funny, I just realized I couldn't stand watching the Superbowl for more than 5 minutes... I could watch this all day.

Way to go Randy Slawson!!!!

and way to go Shannon Campbell 2nd finisher.

UT410: there is One actual day of wheeling.

Usually one to three weeks of pre running and tuning the cars for each team, partying with buddies from accross the country, and living the desert racing life!!!

Every Mans Challenge race (EMC) is the day before KOH. Also, Lots and Lots of vendors have signed on so there are lots of vendor parties, displays, showcase events...

Flat tires, rolling, getting lost, still pulling second.. Wow! I can only imagine what happens to everybody else. Slawsen said is was easy, I think we may have different definitions of easy... Awesome, gotta make it to help out and/or at least see this thing live one of these years.

Dusty Sexton did not qualify, we rolled in the rocks during the LCQ.

However, Brad Lovell lost his motor and let us team up and take his spot for the main race. Unfortunately, we lost a tranny at Mile 23.

I'm sure there will be more pics and updates on the Sexton Offroad Racing facebook page in the near future.

It is my dream to run the every mans challenge in a mostly stock willys jeep.

You would do fine in the desert section but would need to winch every obstacle on every rock trail and I'm guessing you would break seriously on the first actual trail. I don't know if John was kidding or not, but he said he winched about 30 times with his built JK on 35s. If you've never been to the Hammers you're really missing something. BTW, most of the actual trails make Hanging Tree look like a walk in the park. Steve, don't even think about taking Carlos up one, seriously.

If you were leading the race, why wouldn't go through backdoor first? Doesn't make sense to me.

It depended on how crowded it was. We chose not to do it on the first lap because it was way backed up. I'm guessing Shannon had a strategy to get in front and stay in front, and most of his strategies work well.

I think 3 laps total and different layout for different laps (a madatory optional line for lap 3)... Im kinda confused on it as well, but not sure where to find the info.

The first lap was mostly desert racing, much different than 2 and 3 which mixed desert and most of the rock trails. The rigs only hit Pit 1 on lap 1. The mandatory Spooners and Outter Limits trails were mandatory for only lap 3. It sounds a bit confusing, but it was evident what they were trying to do.

129 starters... Did Dave open it up to all LCQ guys again? Does that mean Dustin Sexton could be racing?

Nope, like Bear and Steve said, we got Lovell's spot. The rig was working great, but the tranny took a dump.

Got it. The EMC, that's a newer part of the event, correct? What are the criteria for that? I assumed it was less professional rigs but didn't Currie win it last year?

It's similar to the Stock class in Old School. Limits on changes to wheel base, stock "type" suspension, ... It looks like a fun class to enter, but like has been said, less than 10% finished. That same ratio followed the main race also. 127 started, and 17 finished, Tough race on rigs.

It was a great week with a fantastic crew and I can't wait to go again.

Bart, Craig, Ryan and some others here know Richard Gauthier (Goatman). Team NAXJA/PettyCash Racing (4643) ran the KOH EMC Stock class in their XJ and finished in 2nd place.
"Finished"... yes - an hour and a half after the race was over, but good on them nonetheless! I was impressed with that rig for sure. I wish our team had been given the opportunity to finish instead of being told "race is over, go home." Reading of team NAXJA's problems in the final few miles of the race, it sounds like we would have had a good chance of finishing very close to them.

I looked for the Goat man down there and never could find him. I saw a lot of NAXJA stickers and another XJ, but it wasn't Richards. Congrats to him. Bryson, I was thinking the same thing. It sounded like you guys were right behind him based on when you pulled into camp.

Question for Bart (or anyone else involved in the event): I once heard that KOH has a list of the competitors in the event and the (major) hardware they are running. For example, you can see which competitors run ARBs, which ones run Ox lockers, etc. Is this true? If so, where can I find this info?

Bryson, that's blows that you layed off due to time......considering the course difficulty and number of rigs, it would have been nice to see more time alotted.
