85 4runner build

Hey Brandon it's Ben. Follow this to check your TPS http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTricks/TPS/index.shtml#TPSAdjustment

Then this to check the AFM
http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTricks/AFM/index.shtml#AFMtesting

If you want you can come steal my afm to check. It's the supra one, so it won't run the same, but if it runs better you know what it is. I also have my old afm if that turns out to be the problem.

If you still don't figure it out I know a cheap mechanic with tons of toyota experience.

I had just found those sites. I think Imight come borrow one of your AFM.

So fixed my runner ended up being a AFM... But I have wrapped it all up and have some pics. I want to note that I gave Low range some windshield space, because those guys are great. There employee's go out of the way to help you. So I thought to give them some free advertising.

I am really happy with it. I have a couple little tweaks to do but this phase is looking great.

Future plan's in order:

  • lift rear an inch higher by adding longer shackles
  • add track system in back to strap stuff down
  • fix AC
  • full exhaust
  • full in-cab cage
  • up grade to psc steering pump system
  • front winch
  • hp ARB front locker
  • six shooter knuckles
  • Hydro ast.
  • 37"s
  • dual case with triple 2.28 front w/4.7 rear
with no dead line and subject to change :D

Cops love my 4runner... I have been pulled over 4 times in 3 weeks... only one ticket and it was a no mud flap from the UHP. They even pulled out the measuring sticks, said I was cutting close on height, and my 4in fender flares. I guess it grabs attention.

I used to get a monthly visit by some sort of law enforcement in Utah, it still baffles me that they never cared in Vegas. It's probably a good thing that I have a different daily driver now, because it looks a lot worse that it did 5 yrs ago lol.

Reconsider lifting the rear. I guarantee the next thing you will be searching for is how to lower that beast, trust me! I'm ready to butt sag mine for pure performance reasons. I'm also want to extend the wheel base to get rid of the overhang.

Add a track bar to your list. I can help you tap your box when you get around to it. I did mine.

ARP studs have worked great for my knuckles, with no need for 6 studs. Oh and remember to check your diff studs often and maybe replace them with button heads.

Your list looks good man!

That is why my Toyota is now OHV registered. I got sick of being pulled over and trying to pass safety. Nice Runner. The HP ARB has been my favorite mod, you won't regret spending the green after your first wheeling trip. Plus the sound gets attention when you disengage it.

they have a problem with your fender flares? What's your frame height? Good thing you're running 35's instead of 37s.

The problem they had with my fender flares is that my rear tires are almost sticking out. With my ifs rear axle and 2in b/s rims my rear is really wide luckily my rims are only 8" wide.
I am right on 24" which is legal for my weight...
I blame all the attention on my environment. I work in down town Ogden and don't get off work until 12:30am. I drive by all the major bars on my way home, and my truck is lifted and topless.

Toppless will definately get you attention at all the bars:rofl:
Brandon it is most likley because you are high because im the same wisth but much lower i have been pulled over several times with no fender flares and they didnt care

I'm having the same problem you described in the previous page about cutting out. Except mine also idles at like 4k rpm all of a sudden. I think I'm gonna go check my AFM as well, glad you found out the issue, it is such a pita!

Remember to jump your tester and read the flashes... best trick I have learned

So tried of giving cops there primary reason to pull me over I made some removable mud flaps. I pick up my rubber at 6 states had some 12" by 17 pieces for 8$. I made the connectors out out 1 1/2 x 1/8 flat bar and some 1" square tubing. I just drilled 2 holes in my bumper to put bolts through and wig nut them.

I decided my exhaust was to ghetto, rusty, and leaky. It didn't exit the vehicle, with the top off truck would smell of exhaust. Exhaust smell = upset wife. Also my o2 sensor had been moved to the wrong place and was throwing codes. So i decided to do it right and took it to Terrace Exhaust formerly Ogden Exhaust. They did a full custom exhaust header to tip. They did an awesome job. They kept it all high super clearance.
