The sooner I can swap the parts off my tacoma, the sooner I can sell it. The sooner I sell the tacoma, the sooner I can adopt. I'd also like to have 4wd for some upcoming trips, so I'm in a bit of rush. Plus I like wheeling more than wrenching, so the sooner I finish this build, the sooner I can wheel. :D

That being said, I do want to do the lights. I just need to touch bases with you to make sure I get the right parts.

If I can get the lights done by 6:30, I'll do the lights before wrenching. Don't feel like you have to come help with that, I should be able to figure that out... eventually.

i checked my mpg tonight and I"m getting 17mpg mixed. Not nearly as bad as I thought. I'm looking forward to getting those 4.88s installed and getting some power back.

I've wasted a lot more time lately. I have a trip this weekend and a trip the weekend after, I gotta get this done. I should be able yo get the rear thirds swapped out tonight. Then I can at least drive it to work again.

I won't read the whole thread again. But, is this a 5spd or A/T?

I slapped a "lift" on my 98, using extra parts I had laying around my shop a couple weeks ago and some new 285's. I had some Tundra TRD coils from a rig we put a lift on, some adjustable bilsteins too, and some 4th gen 4runner rear shocks. I spent $150 on some OME rear "medium" coils. Then slapped some Hankook Dynapro ATMs on it. (best AT tire on the market IMHO).

Ironically I am now getting slightly better mileage than before the swap. The 98' is a 5spd with 4.10s. I guess dropping the rpms on the hwy helped.

The 5spd and the A/T as soooooo massively different with these rigs though. My 5spd with 4.10s and 285s still runs higher rpms than an A/T with 4.88s and 285s.

The 98 will end up being my son's when he turns 16 next year.

Here is a pic:

so... hard... to... get... motivated... when... it's... so... cold... out...

Soon the discomfort associated with not having it done will outweight the discomfort of the cold outside.

The way I see it, it's not getting any warmer anytime soon. I just have to grit my teeth and get it over with.

Oh, look, it already has.

The forecast for the storm last week motivated me to get a bunch of stuff done on the blazer and scrambler on Weds and Thurs. So glad I did, it was much nicer than doing it in the snow. 70* in November, wow. Even up on the mountain Thursday night, it seemed almost immoral to be installing tire chains on dry concrete in 50* temps, wearing shorts.

The only thing I didn't get done was the hydro-assist on the blazer. And the tire on the relic rig. And everything on the new YJ. Hmmm...

nice. I got the third out of my tacoma (which is outside) so now I get to work in the less-cold garage the rest of the night.

It's an A/T, so super high OD. I run about 2000 RPMs at 65. Even with the 4.30s it doesn't have the get-up-and-go that it should. The 4.88s should fix that.

with an A/T, 4.88s and 285/75/16s sound like a good combination. Perhaps a tiny bit low, but it'll be nice when it's loaded up with camping gear.

I'm staying with the tires that came on it (for now). When I replace them, it'll be the same size, most likely a KM2 again (unless I find an A/T that I love).
