Did you pull the lower seat cushion out and slide the front seats all the way forward?

I've slept in mine diagonally with the seat cushions installed. When they are removed you easily pick up an extra foot of length.

Yes, I used an electric impact for several trips until the spot welded nut broke off...now I use a ratchet.

Ratchet is quick and super fast. $75 is not worth it imho. I usually just unbolt the seat bottoms and leave them at home if it's one passenger or less. It leaves a nice void for your bags and gear you don't want to leave outside, and now I use a cheap "full" size inflatable mattress that fits perfectly with the seat bottoms out. Celeste and I have slept many times very comfortably on that. Unfortunately the seats don't fold down perfectly flat (you may have noticed this), so an inflatable mattress is king in my book.

ah, I can see it working if you removed the seat bottoms. I did that in my 100 series. Kinda defeats the purpose of a 4-door 4 seater, but if I'm along I can see it being a good option.

After seeing Kurt's 100, I think I may invest in something like this:

I'm not sure if they have an application for the 4runners yet, but it should put you high enough to be able to lay out over the folded down seat bottoms.

ouch, at $900, I think I'll pass.

Buy once, cry once. Guys spend $500+ building their own and they don't have the fit, finish and modular install options. They are a long-term investment, feels expensive today but in 5 years when they still work like today the money won't have mattered. Kinda like buying a Land Cruiser versus an Explorer.

does arb have a good video to showcase the benefits of their system? Also, when I look on their site, they show offerings for 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th gen Runners, but no 3rd gen. Is that a typo?

I'm not familiar with any videos but they specs, features and options are listed on your link above. The overall benefit? Drawers were there were none before. :D The cliff-notes version of the benefit of their drawers? Heavy duty slides, steel frames, steel bodies, detent locks, etc. I'm not sure on the 4Runner applications, I would have to look tomorrow when I'm back in my office.

It's a good point. I didn't mean to imply it's not worth it, only it's out of my budget for now. I was very impressed with yours, I just wasn't very good at "the price is right" this time.

:D

If I took out the bottom part I'd be fine. Or if I built a platform at the height of the seat cushion that flips forward. I'm not sure I'm ready to do either, but I have lots of time to decide.

I'll be wrenching tonight. If anyone's bored and looking for something to do, feel free to swing by.

Plans:
swap the rear 3rd member with my tacoa (4.88s baby!), and start removing the tacoma's front drivetrain. If time permits, press out the manual hub from the tacoma knuckle in preparation for the swap on the runner (which will most likely happen on Thursday night).
