We just moved, and I'm literally half a mile from the entrance I should invest in a yearly pass

You won't make it to the lake. Make sure to yell at anyone you see off trail trying to get around snow drifts.

You won't make it to the lake this early in the year. Even with heavy winching it is doubtful.

Short of an all day winch fest and a lot of work, its not happening...

My attempt, we winched ~20 times until we got to the last climb before the lake, we didn't have enough winch cable or straps to make it.

*No resources were damaged in the attempt, we were on top of snow the entire time

Good question... Heber got decent amounts of snow today, that place is going to be a muddy mess!

I talked to Brian last night and he said that he had talked to the FS and that it won't be open until June 6th now.

Fully agreed, by far the most damage to the trail, fences, etc happens up there the first few weeks the trails are open... I'm all for keeping it closed until it is all dry.

Sweet. I'd like to think my emails and phone calls had some affect on this decision, but probably not. I think it should remain closed even longer into June for the reasons cruiseroutfit mentions.
