Thinking about downsizing my rack from this Velocirax 7, it's been great but I just don't need the space and a four place tray rack would work better for me. Anyone interested in a swap? It would need to have space for fat bike tires.

I have a 4 place Kuat. I've wondered about a vertical rack.....Hmmm. However, I don't know about fat bikes on the Kuat.

How about cutting the 7 rack down to a 4 and selling me the 3 remaining baskets?

I ended up buying a velocirax hitch and upright assembly from some Amazon auction guy for pretty cheap.

I figured I could buy baskets from velocirax and could cut my own crossbars but they won’t sell just a plain basket. You can buy fat tire baskets but not normal size.

So I figured one of these days I will just fab my own but that day hasn’t come yet. Be a lot easier to just buy some baskets

Just an idea

Maybe? I'll think about it.

Just finished up this 24” wheeler for my ten year old. The whole thing is straight gauge aircraft 4130. Even without any butted tubes the frame was 3.4 lbs.
She was going to get a 1x9 drivetrain, but I discovered the used derailleur I set aside for the build was missing the B tension screw thingy, so I swiped the SRAM XO 1x10 drivetrain which was meant for her mother’s build.
It’s got matching, vintage Trek/Matrix carbon bars and seatpost. Picked them up at the Bicycle Collective. Try finding a modern carbon seatpost in 26.8 mm. Total weight was just over 21 lbs. Those Odyssey BMX pedals are HEAVY.
Powder coat usually takes a couple weeks, so she’s riding it raw until the weather turns nasty. The powder she chose is Wild Lilac which is about the same as the pedals.

Clearance is clearance? Something went wrong between AutoCAD and reality. The cranks stuck out further past the pedal hole than in my model and the forging was just a weird shape on the back of the crank. Had to trim the crank ends up in the mill.

I had a guy flying down Lewis Peak trail two years ago on a mountain bike. I saw him coming and pulled over to the side and he was not slowing down., I leaned over to the uphill side of the trail to try to avoid him. At about 20' he finally looked up and saw me but it was too late. He hit me on my 300 and and broke his carbon SC Bronson in half. He was pissed, not at me, at himself. I did my best to avoid him but it was a skinny part of the trail and the downhill side would have put him near the dam at Pineview. After he gathered his composure, he apologized and picked up his two uni-cycles and began the 4 mile walk of shame.

It’s new bike time for my son Jonah. He races NICA but not competitive. Enjoys the practices more than the races. He likes bike parks. Likes to jump and likes drops.

I need a bike that can do it all but I’d say more with a leaning to enduro than xc

Thinking Santa Cruz tall boy, Hightower or 5010

Also in the mix is ibis Ripley, transition spur, RM instinct , etc.

I’m a Santa Cruz fan myself. I found a decent priced 2023 5010. This is a mullet bike.
I’m thinking it might suit his style and wants pretty decently.

What’s yours guys takes on a mullet?

Anyone selling something that might fit the bill? Needs to be a Large frame.

I rode my Instinct for 6 years and loved it. I'm 215lbs and rode TWE a dozen times on it hitting all but the biggest drops. I ride Vertigo and Levitate a couple times a week and can clear most of the stuff on those trails and the Instinct was plenty of bike for that stuff. I'd imagine it would only be more capable for Jonah being way lighter than me.

My main riding group includes a guy on a baller kitted Ripley and another guy on a Tall boy. I have ridden and liked both. I absolutely love my new Pivot but the 429 is not a park/enduro bike. I was at Al's a month ago and they had a brand new Pivot Firebird VERY well equiped for just barely more than I paid for my used 429. I'd rock a Firebird in a heartbeat.

I have been out of the bike shop life game for a couple years but trek and specilized had really good nica discounts. dont know about the other brands but its worth looking into.
when I was still at the shop I put a lot of kids on 150 140 travel bikes. it will do almost anyting and it still climbs decent.
also mullet is my personal choice. the down side is you cant just have one spare tire you have to have 2 but you still have plenty of rolling speed and it corners better than a full 29. and a lot of bikes now can run mullet or full 29 with flip chips.

Carbon guy in a local FB group.
I suppose I'll continue Alloy peasantry.

I have actually broken more alloy frames seat or chain stays than carbon. I still prefer alloy. most brands its a minimal diffrence on weight. and then you just slap carbon bars and cranks on it and it will take out most of the little vibrations you get in your hands and feet with a full alloy set up. also worry less with alloy. my current bike is carbon and im always worried about crashing it and cracking or chipping the carbon as the brand folded at the begging of the year so if it brakes im screwed.
