Huh, I was going to fill the 3 gallon bucket, then pour it into the 5 gallon bucket. Refill the 3 gallon bucket and fill the 5 gallon bucket to the top, leaving you with exactly 1 gallon in the 3 gallon bucket. Pour the 5 gallon bucket out, and pour the 1 gallon from the 3 gallon bucket into it. Fill the 3 gallon bucket again, and then pour that into the 5 gallon bucket, which now contains exactly 4 gallons. Your way is easier, I guess.
