South-East Utah Bikes...HITR Planning Thread, May 24-26

Just want to get this started. I'd like to plan a HITR trip primarily for bikes. I don't think we'll turn away 4x4s or ATVs but I'd like to be able to do an in and out in one day. That's a tall feat for a 4x4. The plan would be Fri-Sun. Friday we all arrive and setup base camp. I'd like to drive in a ways to setup base camp. This will do a couple things, it will allow us to carry little to no gear on our bikes, making it so we can move quicker. It will also allow most bikes that can complete 60ish miles on a tank to be eligible to run the trail without much worry or without having to carry much extra fuel. It will also allow us to have a far less hectic ride. The rest of the day Friday, we'll screw around on the bikes/around camp, etc. Have a good meal that night. Then we'll get an "early" start on Saturday riding. Beat the heat and give us plenty of time. I see no reason we can't do an in and out in one day. Then on Sunday we'll screw around a bit more and as people want to, pack up and head home. I guess you could leave Saturday night if you're trying to be home for Sunday, but I'd hate to see anyone leave after a long day of riding and not have the rest they should have.

So, let's get a list of guys that would like to come. I'll update this first post with the list. I would like to keep it to 10 bikes or less. (I know that's a good sized group, but I think even with a group that large, we can make good time on the bikes). Also, let's get some dates out there. I'd like to do it this spring, so in the next couple months. I'm thinking early June as the absolute latest we'd want to do it. I'm good just about any weekend between now and then.

Date: May 24-26

So, post up if you're interested. I'll keep attendance noted as for sure in and maybe in. We need a solid commitment by April 26.

I will say, the requirements will only be you need to be comfortable with your bike (both maintenance/repair and riding) and you need to be capable of riding it. There are some ledges, soft sand, etc so if you're not comfortable with that kind of riding, this isn't the place to break a foot and not be able to ride (especially without a 4x4 support vehicle :D).

Man, with all this talk about riding, I am really getting the itch to get a bike...

Sounds like an amazing trip. Maybe if there is one next year ;)

I don't think I can swing any of the dates, but it sure sounds like a fun ride. I'll let you know if anything changes.

Put me down on the for sure list... as long as it's not May 17-19. I think this would be an epic trip!

I'm in... but I need to find a bike before then!

What happened to your wr? did I miss something?

Any issues with May 10-12 for anyone? I think that's sounding like a good weekend. Still early enough to be a little cooler, but not too cool.

Ok, date is set. May 10-12, if you are not on the for sure list, we need a commitment by April 26, otherwise we'll have to cross you off for the sake of planning.
