I'm tellin ya, all you really need are 4.7s. Dual cases are sweet, but not really needed, and not worth the extra work in my opinion. I don't think chandler had duals.

I do. Just don't use it all the time. I used it when I broke the hub. lol Sometime I need more tire spin then the crawl. I was using it when I climbed out of the fun spot to the left of where I broke the hub.

gotcha. Ok, I say go for it Brandon. It's nice to have the duals. It's also nice to have a twin stick. I didn't see much of a point for it before I bought it, but now I use it ALL the time.

Hey Branding, I might have a duel case set up with 2.28's in both for sale pretty soon. I just wrecked my 84 and I'm just waiting on the insurance company to total it out. I'll let you know when I find out.

I seen him but I didn't stay long. I just wanted to see where it was so we were only out there for maybe a half hour. But I could probably spend a whole weekend out there, that place is really cool.

So I have spent yesterday looking at the cost and available crawl ratios. Currently I am running a L43 transmission with 1st gear ratio of 3.63 with stock transfer case at 2.28 and R/p of 5.29 so..
3.63x2.28x5.29= 43.78 to 1 crawl ratio
I have a L50 or L52 tranny unsure which it is but has a gear ratio of 3.93 with added to if I run 4.7 gears with the cost only having to buy the new gears a 250$ with current diff gears would give me
3.93x4.7x5.29= 97.71 to 1 total cost 250$
If I was to go with stock gear duals I would have to buy the adapter plate 300$, extra case 100$, new cross member 195$, length front drive line ( square) 30$, shorten rear and re balance it 50$
3.93x2.28x2.28x5.29= 108.07 to 1 total cost 675$
If I was to go with stock front and 4.7 rear case I would have to buy 4.7 gears 250$ the adapter plate 300$, extra case 100$, new cross member 195$, length front drive line ( square) 30$, shorten rear and re balance it 50$
3.93x2.28x4.7x5.29= 222.78 to 1 total cost 925$
These are all on the low end estimate but clearly the best bang for the buck is just doing the 4.7 gears.. So that’s what I will being save to get, but I would love to hear someone else’s opinion if it is different

I think that's the best idea. install the 4.7s and wheel it for a while. If you decide that 4.7s aren't low enough for you, then you can go to the dual ultimates and add a doubler in front of it. I think the 4.7s will be plenty low for you, especially with 5.29s. Just my 2 cents.

If you do go with duals, make sure you upgrade to 23 spline at the time.

You took the words right out of my mouth brandon, i was going to tell you to just put 4.7 in your current case and you will love it, 97 to 1 is a way low ratio, and the cost for you is way low too, i plan to do the same thing except i have to buy a 300 dollar adapter to make it fit my tranny, but when you get the gears give me a call i want to help install them

Found sweet thread on carbs on pirate, I am going to do a vent mod, lower my float, I picked up a msd ingintion kit, and going to run fuel reg, and rebuild my carb. I am going to do a indepth description of all of this because I could not find much info on the 20r so i can help others.

I had a guy at my work swear by this cheap autozone fuel presure regulator. It adjust by the dial on it from .5 to 5 psi

also picked up my 20r rebuild kit from napa

now i have to wait until saturday to get it done

So I ended up just buying a 20r carb that was already rebuilt, got for a great price. I hooked up to my truck with the fuel regulator and man does it run good now. Even with it being cold today it fired right up. Now I just need to test it at high angles.
