update!

So far
I got a currie ford 9 inch front with a detroit.
bought the doubler
got a bigger TB and spacer
in the process of moving the gas tank.
bought steel to build the bumpers
still haven't decided what to do on the stretch, links or leafs.
help me make up my mind. if I go links I am mainly worried about getting the angles right, anti-squat and what not. I have about 500 left.

Good progress, sounds like you're going the right direction! You know how I feel, link it! $500 is just enough to build a 4 link. There's a few simple rules about 4 links, if you follow them it will work just fine.

Here's some threads-

Excellent post from the above thread- http://www.rockymountainextreme.com/showpost.php?p=341877&postcount=14

Search "four + link + suspension" and you'll have plenty of reading material.

Here's a pic to help you visualize... this is my TJ, but it would be pretty simple to build something similar on a YJ.

Straight lowers, triangulated uppers, adjustable upper brackets with 4 positions to tune your anti-squat.

From another post-

There's a few simple rules, like-

  • Keep your links as close to horizontal as possible.
  • Double triangulation is very good, if you can make it work.
  • Seperate your rear link mounts by 25% of your tire size.

I think you should stretch it with BTF's XJ kit, get the GenRight (or whatever their name is) comp corners, sink your stock gas tank into the tub, and get a quality cage with PRP seats.

Listen to this guy, he knows what he's talking about. :D

You can stretch it to 106 or 7 pretty easily just using good yj springs rubicon express or something like that, move your front leafs to mount off the very front of your frame, the tank up or fuel cell , build a new rear bumper and mount your rear shackles off of it. I will try to dig up some pics of how we did it on the yj we have.

You could even use the exact same bracketry on a YJ, if you so desired. ;)

O.K. you peaked my interest. I know you sell the truss. Do you sell the other brackets? If so PM a price. That would make it a lot easier. Gregs set up looks great.

I think i may go leafs though.

I would seriously think about leaving leafs in the front, and converting to coils in the back. You get stability and anti sway with the leafs in the front, plus you get away from all the steering and 3 link/4 issues.

With a 4 link and coils in the rear you get wicked aticulation and you get away from having to add an anti wrap system. Chris Durham used this combition for his comp rigs and it works well.

Wow, that looks familiar. :D This is a great system that is already proven. I like the KISS methodology and don't believe in re-inventing the wheel. A great way to go IMHO.

I had leafs in the front and coils in the rear of my last rig and I loved it that way. It wasn't a 4 link, but it still worked great. The leafs in the front are staying for sure. The only hang ups with the coils in the rear are time, money, and possibly ability. I read all the links greg posted and still don't know if I understand. I know I can build the link system, I just don't know if I can build it well enough.:ugh:

I can sell all the brackets, I just don't have easily-available individual part prices. You can get just brackets, the brackets and control arms together......the only potential hitch if you're only linking the rear is that the lower control arm brackets are one piece for the front and rear arms, so to use that you'd probably end up cutting the front mounts off of them, or something like that.

Are the upper and lower brackets one piece? If not then I would really like the frame side upper mounts. I don't need the links I have them already. If you can figure out the price for the brackets let me know.

Those upper link mounts combined with the Tera axle truss would make linking your YJ very simple, the mounts slide over the frame and you weld them on from both sides. On TJ's you position them just ahead of the body mount. One thing to consider is that you need a 1" body lift to fit those upper link mounts. You could chop off the top bit of the bracket & loose one hole, if you didn't want to run the BL. I considered that with mine, but need the BL for the Atlas. Here's some good pics:

After that you'd only have to worry about the link mounts for the straight lowers. I think it would be pretty easy to fab your own frame mounts or even buy some of the DIY mounts.

Those look sweet. I am planning on doing a body lift anyway to help clear the doubler. It might not be too bad if I run those. Those pics where extremely helpful. Would that truss work with an ARB line?
It's gonna be hard to not link it up now.
