16 years… we may not be the best pet owners, but she has lived a good life. Inside dog, lots of love and attention, joined us on many adventures until she slowed down too much.

I just made a home visit vet appointment to have “the” talk about how to make her more comfortable and plan for the end :( we haven’t been to the vet in like 10 years, are they going to give us a guilt trip about that?

Tough thing to do. Not looking forward to it again. We have a few years but you can see the slow down starting. We are just coming up on 8 years with our last dog. Looking fwd to not having hair around, poop on the grass and such. Not looking fwd to him not being around and "the day". "The day" kind of sucks.... Nothing else that can be said about that

It's been a year since our Shelby blew a knee and she's now 13. We've been medicating her with anti-inflammatory and pain meds and she's doing "OK", but she's still 2 years old in her head, so she tries to run and chase the little dogs and hike the hills. She actually does all of that, but she really feels it for a couple days after each event. We're about to spend 10 days at our property and she has free roam there. She loves being there, but it's literally shortening her life.

Any vet who tries to make you feel guilty is in the wrong.
I do at times have to try to very diplomatic in educating a client when a specific health problem should have been seen sooner (does not sound like your situation at all) while not compounding grief with guilt. My intention is to never make a client feel guilty.

Update… the vet was extremely considerate, put her on anti inflammatory and pain meds, which made a noticeable difference. She was more active and was able to get around better. I’m glad we did so she would be comfortable for her last couple weeks.

She passed unassisted without warning last night. It has been rough, we got got her 3 months after we married. She’s been a good friend through all of life’s challenges.

A few memories….

I was always excited to get past the puppy stage, but she was a pretty dang cute puppy

She was never a good trail dog, every time we took her out she almost got ran over, mostly just because she liked being close to people

She was always super patient with the kiddos(top one was this week, beach with the twins was like 5 years ago)

She literally ate my textbook in college

Probably because we tortured her, but she was always a good sport

My all time favorite pic of her, taken by Levi in like 2010 at sand hollow (he used to be on here I think)

My Husky Sidney passed in April and my Golden Olly passed this Friday. We loved them with all our hearts it was so damn sad to watch them go. They both lived to a ripe ol’ age but it’s always too soon isn’t it?

It was a tough decision but my family and I all agreed we needed a puppy to fill the hole in our hearts. Well here’s Winnie she’s a 12 week old Aussie-Doodle. Oh boy what fun haha.
