Got this emailed to me today:

Subject: U4WDA Join Us
Name: bob
Email: bob@bob.com
Phone:
Interest: Other
Comments: I have been very interested in joining the utah 4 wheel drive association. The only thing that has been holding me back is who the president is. I don't like Curt. He has no tact. Likes to bash everyone and anything that he doesn't like or agree with. I feel that people like this shouldnt' be apart of your oganization.

What are your thoughts...

I guess that my volunteer position within the U4WDA has its up times and it surely has its down times. I take heed to all comments that arise, especially when someone questions the way I conduct myself. I guess I just want to hear some input... I already tried to reply to the sender as I would love to discuss this matter, but as I predicted the sender is faceless and doesn't want to discuss this further (IMHO a case of tough keyboard ;))...

Really though, can I not be a part of a fundemental organization like the U4WDA and still have an opinion... NEVER have I bolstered my opinion as that of the U4WDA. And why would someone send a message saying they would join if I was gone? If I were in the dusgruntled situation as this emailer is, I would join just to make my opinion count... as it must be know that I was voted into this position.

Just thinkin out loud I guess...

BTW, the Board Members of the U4WDA and I all encourage members and non-members to contribute alike, both with comments and suggestions as well as in person. But, how am I to take them serious if they don't even leave a return address (or email address)???

That being said... feel free to reply as you wish... we need all the help we can get, we are understaffed and underpaid. ;)

Personally, every time I see your posts etc., it seems to me that you try very hard not to offend any one and also try to understand their point of view... at least that is what I have observed for the most part, once again we have someone who needs to further explain themselves....

I can see how Kurt could be viewed as an abrasive individual, but his personality seems to work for him if he was voted in as the pres. Maybe people just need to be a little less judgemental and pull their head out of their a$$ so they can see the whole picture. I certainly wouldn't refrain from joining an organization because of a person I had never met.

I do try... Funny, I recently had another fellow RME member say something like "as the President of the U4WDA you should refrain from making comments that may be viewed as controversial"... The part I find funny is that people want me to be on a higher level, yet they won't shell out the $25 to join either way... I try to work with everyone, to make people feel welcome, etc... but as EVERYONE, I have opinions, agendas, and ideas.... But it must be understood that they are my opinions, agendas, and ideas and not that of the U4WDA in every situation. Thanks for the kind words!

Have we ever met?

I admit, I truly can be an abrasive person, but people must understand that if "I" have an opinion on a matter... it is "my" opinion, not always that of the U4WDA.

Now... Bob, if you are from RME, come take my position as the President and show me how to better serve. I know that the rest of the U4WDA would respect my wishes to have you join us as President. Mabey then you will even join... I will even pay your $25 dues if you show up to help us out!

I'm not much of a religious person, but I associate religion with the U4WDA in some respect... as you don't have to be a "paying" member to attend, you don't ever have to join, despite peer/family pressure. So do those that are faithful in their religions agree with EVERYTHING that their leaders say/do/preach? Or do you send them a "blank" email?

I have been around the assn. for over twenty yrs. I remember when it was the assn. of 4wd clubs. I don't have a lot of time to attend the functions any more but I did go to price and it was a well organized event. From what I see now the assn. is way more involved and organized than in the past. The news letter that just came was the best ever. I want to thank the board members for the job they do (as a former board member I know what kind of effort it takes to do the job) THANKS!!!

I've never met you, but you were very helpful on the phone. I still have to stop by, especially since you've got that FJ55 going on now. :D

Too much coddling and handholding going on in general lately. If "bob" can't look beyond some personality conflict, if there is one, and even if there is, that can be worked out or around, then I guess, hey, he can just ride the coattails of the people doing the work.

On the other hand, if there's truth in that opinion then you've got a chance to change it, or not. Since I haven't met you I really couldn't say. Either way, too bad "bob" is letting that get in the way.

Maybe you could email him and explain that the bigger picture is more important?

We met once, I bought some a gasket set from you for my t-case. You were great to work with, and I have nothing bad to say. I am just saying from reading your posts you can sound abrasive, but I wouldn't let your statements on here prevent me from participating in U4WDA, so I do not know why some other bonehead would be offended.

Well, I just rejoined after letting my membershio lapse a while ago. Part of the reason is you. I bet your getting more new memebers than you are scaring away (even if you do try to hit them with your truck in parking lots ;) ). You can't win them all.

Being the "leader" of any organization is a PIA. I have lurked for a long while and observed a lot of your exchanges where opinions were involved. The ONLY one I have questioned was the one with the "anti-club club" where at one point the impression that was given was if you were not a lawyer or specialist for the court room then all UFWDA needed was the guys money. I know from experience that volunteerism plays a large role as well in the minds of the public. Get 'em involved, educate them, then get thier money (haha), as more lawyers are, unfortunately, needed, as well as good comments with scientific backing for the RMP process. There is a legal and a psychological battle to win when it comes to public access. We, as a mechnaized use community, are doing a better job of the legal battle, but the psychological one with the general public remains even at best. One guy doing donuts or a discarded Mickey D's bag on the trail wipes out a full days trail clean up in the minds of the non-mechanized public land user. However, I shared your frustration with the "club" and threw in my dues to U4WDA in protest... (where are my decals!) Besides, if the individual sending the email did not have the guts to sign it and give a phone number, it doesn't count in my book. If he/she has an issue, they can always join up and vote. You'll get mine (even if your not "old")... keep up the good work! Look forward to wheeling with you someday. See ya on the trail....
