That was my thinking, a BLM sticker would just be great..... but I can already forsee a major hurdle in our sign quest.... stay tuned for details.. time for some research...

Yeah, there's got to be some "red tape" in there somewhere...

No no, we're not about red tape. Put the sign up, BLM sticker is a good idea whether or not it was given to us by the BLM. I say put a note on it about "trail adapoted by members of RME." Maybe on the back we could have a contact phone number (?) Dunno bout that last bit, we don't want someone getting all the heat.

I hate to add so much text, but it would be really nice to have something more specifc regarding not paving the trail. "If you can't make it, either use a winch, take the body damage, or turn around! Don't permanantly modify the trail to make it easier."

Exactly, I'm not about red tape at all. I would hate to see the BLM go as far as ripping the sign out if they determined it to be unauthorized, regardless of our good intentions. I haven't had much experience with the BLM on these issues myself, but it sounds like Kurt is looking into it.

There are a couple major issues about placing the sign... I think that we will be able to get around them, but I have a little more digging to do... :D

Any adjustments to the text?
The rest seems OK, but I think this line sounds too nice. It shouldn't be mean, but dancing around what is expected will recieve less respect.

Maybe this would be more effective.....

"Respect others rights to the Trail.
Leave it how you found it."

Short and to the point.

Constrictor nor Rattlesnake are in the designated open area. I hardly think that moving rocks is considered environmental damage nor is it necessarily illegal. This is a friendly thread; I think you're throwing rocks at a hornets nest here. Why don't you tell us what you think the sign should say?

Yeah, he's my little brother!!:D

Actually I think that something to the effect of what Sky has come up with would work best.

hehehe, I have been avoiding this thread cause I thought it would just piss me off...

actually I think I do have a sheet of 3/16" I could get IF we want to do it out of aluminum...it might cost me a few bucks but I would call it my donation to the trail...so let me know if we want an aluminum sign...BTW, its a 4'x8' sheet;)

Hey Caleb, you may want to hold off on the aluminum stuff. I hate to say it, but this thing will probably get shot at once in a while. Fairly thick steel would hold up better don't ya think guys? Also, if steel, it can be welded to the posts, otherwise someone may take home a nice aluminum sign.

I agree with the shot up thing...I brought up that exact comment to the mods...Welding to it wont be a problem...we have all types and sizes of tubing I can weld to it from 1" up to 4" except for 2.5" and they are all about .25" wall...

First of all, Neither Constrictor nor Rattlesnake are in the designated open area. Secondly, I hardly think that moving rocks is considered environmental damage nor is it necessarily illegal. This is a friendly thread; I think you're throwing rocks at a hornets nest here. Why don't you tell us what you think the sign should say?

Actually, the map the BLM just sent me shows they are in the open area.:)
