We are neither a bureaucracy nor a government. We don't need five committees to put up a sign! (Sounds like UDOT!) One group will work fine.

I have the hookup on the signs.....you know those brownish signs on all the national landmarks and LDS churches that never seem to fade or tarnish or rust or peel? The guy that makes ALL of those for the fed government and the LDS church is in the family. He has his signs in front of geysers at yellowstone that have been there for 20+ years without fading in those noxious chemicals and sunlight. I know he will do the hookup if we want to do some kickass looking signs.

You guys do your commitee, get your wording and design. Call me up and I will get it done. I guarantee any other sign in that environment be it stickers, or paint wont stand a chance. These signs this guy makes are the shizzle.

a little FYI...this guy was once the highest paid civilian on HAFB for his chemical engineering skills. WAYYY cool cat...just don't get him complaining about agent orange and DDT....he actually likes that stuff.....

call me people...791-0377

How many bullets do the Yellowstone signs get shot through them? I still like the idea of 1/8th inch plate with letters cut through it, welded to a 1/4 inch plate. Might not look as nice, but it'll stand up to the bullets a bit better...

a motivated redneck isn't going to stop at 3/8 inches of plate. my ak-47 I just got rid of would pop through that and and then some.

Basically anything you put out there isn't going to stand a chance against a bullet. If your sign looks like sh!t, (plasma letters in plate), it looks less official.

if it looks less official, nobody pays attention to it.

if it looks official people MIGHT pay attention to it and read it.

That is the exact reason "subcomittees" are need....

Spence has no interest in writing the rules, nor do I (I would be vulgar and offensive). Just as well, I have no hook-ups in the sign industry nor the experience to make one. I am however very interested in placing the signs and maintaining them as well....

Why not let everyone get a chance to be a part of this rather than 2-3 people do all the work...

We are not making any progress in getting one made form the last few days... who had the best "wording" for the sign?

Someone needs to get that done and call Spence about getting it done... follow up etc....

Did I mention we need comittees? :D

Ok, I can understand that, but each member needs to head up a different project, heading the advice of the others. That way each person keeps their ball rolling....

How much would a sign cost, from your hookup, Spence? The way I see it, we need to figure out if we want it pretty, but abuse-prone (Spence's buddy), or less pretty, but much more durable (steel welded to more steel). If Spence can get us a prefessional sign for free (or really cheap), I say we give it a try, if it gets shot up, we'll go to plan B and put up a bullet-resistant sign. Depends on the cost of Spence's sign I guess.

Yup, yup... can't hurt to find out the cost...

Lets explore our options vastly...

(this should be done by the Construction Sub-Comittee ;))

ok...some questions....

dimensions? obviously dimensions go with wording so how verbose do we want to be?

if you want bullett resistant...I can get inch thick aircraft grade aluminum...maybe thicker....:D

how many signs?

I know I can get them pretty cheap. I would even be willing to foot some of the bill and I bet we can take up a collection to get these things paid for.

we can get pretty ornate if we want to, If we have an insignia or symbol of some sort...maybe a U4WDA logo or some such thing....

give me sizes...I will get quotes.

I want to out of the whole debate except to say I support whatever the buerocracy comes up with, and I also think most of you underestimate the power of modern magnum high power rifles. You might want to think about somthing that can be replaced for a resonable cost because if someone wants to use it for target practice it can be destroyed no matter what you make it out of(within reason of couse).

Yep, if someone wants to take it down, they will. We just have to hope they are on our side, I guess. There are things we can do to protect it. I think it should be sufficiently burly to take 22's and shot guns without being damaged, and we should place it in such a way that someone would have to be pretty close to it to shoot it. What are you guys saying? It could be destroyed if someone wants to, so we should just forget about it and not put one up at all? I think if we make a nice sign most people will respect that. Hopefully those that won't repect it will not be sufficiently armed to destroy it, or will not wander over to RS.

We could booby trap it........

One shot and the whole area goes KA-PLOOEY!!!!!

Let's not dwell too much on the wild wild west aspect of this. Remember that shooting isn't allowed in that area in the first place. (Like it's stopped me....oops, did I say that outloud?) On the sign size......let's consider something about 14x20 or so.

Get the plate I'll bring my rifle(300 mag). I don't know for sure but I think it may penetrate. There are a lot of really big guns out there these days.
If it won't work I'll have to buy that 50 I always wanted.
