EcoBoost

Personally, I dislike sunroofs and would never choose one. Unfortunately, I like vehicles with a high trim level and the marketing people always add a sunroof as a "benefit" of the high trim level, so both of our main vehicles have them.

I really don't care for sunroofs because of the heat they put into the truck plus when the cover is open it is always cooking my head. Our Raptor has the big sunroof in it and if it ever breaks out of warranty, I probably wouldn't fix it. Since this sunroof is so big, I had a high end film put on it that reflects something like 75% of the UV and it makes a noticeable difference to the heat you feel beating down on you when the shade is open.

I've had a few friends get the sunroof fixed when it breaks.... $4k each for the two ford trucks I know of
The video on how to replace it makes it seem like a dealer would charge about $4k. I'm guessing they have the part at $500 and a ton of labor. I've found the part online for $109 before the pandemic. To fix you have to drop the entire headliner. It looks like a PIA...which is another reason I haven't fixed it yet....but with this heat I've been missing the tilt function a lot. I always felt that helped a lot with the internal temp when parked.

I'd be way interested in test driving that 7.3L with you. I do think it highly unlikely I buy one unless something happens to my V10 but I haven't found a 7.3L gas to even test drive yet. Curious how much the 10 speed trans would help it (I'd estimate a LOT)
Ed Kennelly has a F350 STX on the lot right now with the 7.3L. I drove it today. Its nice. We couldn't get close enough on price for me to pull the trigger today on the one I am looking at that arrives later this month, but I am still contemplating. I am not really in a hurry, so I may get quotes from all the dealers and pit them against each other as it isn't a buyers market right now. Then I'd just wait the 10-12 weeks for a delivery and order exactly what I want from the factory.

And to clarify, I love my EB F150. If I end up keeping it, I will add airbags to help with heavier loads the couple of times a year I tow heavy.

How did it feel vs the EB? Do you mind sharing what they were asking?

The F350 I drove felt fine. It's hard to compare my short bed F150 EB to a long bed F350 as the F350 is a much heavier truck, but the 7.3 felt good. It was certainly not a torque monster the diesel is, but it felt very adequate for my 5 mile test drive. I liked it A LOT more than the 6.2L trucks I drove last year before buying my F150.

They are asking 54k for the one they have. It is a fairly stripped down STX. I am looking at a 2021 F250 Tremor that is supposed to arrive in August. Sticker on it is 60k. It is an XLT premium package and the only thing I would add that it doesn't have is the factory installed winch. I would also order Blue if I were to order one. The one they have coming in is Grey.

Just got back from Lake Powell where it was hot as hell but everything worked great. I wasnt pulling anything but I was loaded with coolers, water and pop. Got 15.9 mpg averaging 85. I say thats a win.

I ordered the sun roof on my new one but not so sure I am going to keep that on my order. It looks cool but I never use any of the sun roofs I have had in other cars or trucks. Anyone have it and like it?

I never use mine. In fact it broke last year and I haven't bothered to replace the $125 part to get it working. I do like it for hot days to help give an extra exhaust port for the heat in the cab...but otherwise hardly open it.

Granted, the newer trucks have a larger moon roof which I think would be cool....but I have found leaving the shade open on mine just makes me hotter driving around, so even it still stays closed most of the time.
I never use mine. It get cracked when it is sitting all day in the hot sun with the sun shade in the windshield, but that is all I use it for. I like to think between that, and the tint they put on it when I did the rest of the truck keeps it cool, but I doubt it.

@pELYgroso just purchased a 7.3L truck not too long ago. He might have some input on it.

So, more drama for us..
I ordered a replacement throttle body, and waited an extra 3 days for the part that had outstanding reviews. Put it in tonight, and the car wont even idle right. No throttle response at all, and was throwing all kinds of alarms from check engine to hill decent and traction control warnings. I thought I may have broken a wire or something in the install process. 🤦‍♂️ 😫. I pulled the part out, checked all the wires I could see that I may have bumped. Check the plug for the TB, etc. My wife noticed that the new TB had a red plastic piece inside the plug that the old one did not. I didn't think it would make any difference, but I pulled it out and re-installed the TB (this makes 3 complete removal and installs for me so far). Same chugging at idle, no throttle response, and all the warnings.

I pulled the new TB out, and put the old one back in. Vroom! it fired right up and ran normal again. I am plenty sure it will continue to die as we drive around.. but it felt good to at least be back to the original problem. Then I found myself LOLing as it reminded me of Kuzco :rofl:

Some of those throttle bodies need to be reflashed with the computers. otherwise it will run like crap while it tries to manually program.

I tried two different relearn sequences that I found on the forums. Neither one of them worked. One of them involved driving for a minute at certain speeds, but we couldn’t do that because we had no throttle response at all and couldn’t go anywhere. It seems like for the vast majority of people it is just a plug in and go part. I have ordered the OE replacement part this time.

I’ve installed probably 10 throttle body’s on EB’s and never had a repeat failure. We just use the techsmart ones. No re-learn or programming involved just start it let it find its idle speed and done.

I made sure I disconnected the battery when I replaced the throttle body on and cleared the code before I started it back up.
We did this also

It was the Techsmart that we had. I assume it was just a bad unit.. but it was frustrating for sure.

You said it was a genuine Ford TB? I'd return it and get a replacement.

The first one I bought was the Techsmart. I am returning it, and ordered the Hitachi OE part. The cost is double... but it will be here much faster than getting another Techsmart.. and my wife wanted her car back.

When I was looking at the EB's that had the giant moon roof, the first thing that popped into my head was standing in the bed with a bike and a tie down buckle getting tossed onto the roof. I'm not sure it would break the glass, but it is a thought.
I loved the sunroof in my 3rd gen 4 Runner. I hate the one in my 4th gen. It constantly rattles.

I am convinced to remove the sun roof from my order today. I will replace it with the fancy 100 speaker stereo system. I know its not 100 speakers but I think its like 16 or something.

I don't want this thread to deter anyone from buying an EB, I have loved my truck and for the couple of times it has gotten hot towing faster or heavier loads than I should be, it has been a fantastic truck. I have literally put tires, brakes, two exhaust manifolds, two sets of plugs and wires and a water pump on it in 190K miles. I would say that's a pretty damn good truck. My BIL owns a shop in Bountiful and he says that Ford really out did themselves with the EB and that it by far is the best gas motor truck out there.

If I ever had a truck that regularly got to the point of over heating while towing at its rated capacity I would definately not consider it a great truck, Especially considering this isnt a one off single truck issue this seems like across the board the ecoboost isnt up for the work its rated to do...

I don't understand the sunroof hate. Everytime I drive up a canyon I've loved having sunroofs to see up and out, my kids love them, I think they're pretty amazing. The only reason we didn't get one in our new expedition is with 5 kids, the DVD player location is the most sacred space on the vehicle. The panoramic sunroof on these new trucks is so cool and huge
