So I'm looking for another vehicle again. Selling my z71 on Saturday. I have no idea what I want at all. I want it to be comfortable (doesn't have to be luxury but I sure do like luxury), powerful, mpg doesn't matter because it always sucks for me no matter what I have but if it's decent mileage that's a plus. I want it to be 4wd obviously, somewhat capable but not hardcore wheeler. It's got to have 4 doors. I don't want a huge truck, I've had a few Tundras and they are too big imo to get around comfortably.

What are some of the suv's and trucks you guys have thought about that fit this criteria? Needs to be under $25K.

I actually have an excuse for this one. With the extended cab and having a baby wasn't the greatest idea. Getting him in and out wasn't the problem. It was when my wife wanted to sit in back with him. She couldn't get out until I reached across and opened the front door for her. It got old fast.

My vote, 100 Series Land Cruiser. You can supercharge the V8 if its not enough for you. Rear lockers were optional, put a 2.5" OME lift on and I think you can run 35's. It would be capable, offer the posh feel you like, be family friendly and is just a little smaller than a fullsize pickup.

I want one.... ;)

I loved my 100 series. I wish I could talk my wife into one. They're about as wide as a tundra, but they're so comfortable both on and off road.

I love your 100 too, big changes coming when I get back stateside. :)

Cascadia, I wish I could tell you the 100 would make you happy bit given your propensity to move through rigs I don't know that it would. They are big, they are heavy, mileage is mediocre and parts and repairs are going to be at or higher any of your previoua rigs. That said if you want a super solid platform and plan to modify it to your needs for a long term build, they are one of the best vehicles for the project.

I've driven a 4th gen 4 runner. I love the look of them. But it didn't feel as nice as I thought it should.

Kurt, I've never had to do any repairs on any of my previous rigs...I haven't had them long enough for anything to break. It's not the wideness that bothers me, it's the length and the turning radius on trucks. I think I need to go drive one. And maybe try another 4 runner.

Is there a big difference in the 4.0 motor and the 4.7 in the 4 runner? Is the 4.7 the same motor that is in the first gen Tundras and the 4.0 the same motor that is in the current tacomas? Would it be worth the extra $3k + to have the v8 over the v6? Is there anything to look for in the 4 runners? Were any of them offered with the rear e locker? Is the rear axle the same axle that comes in the tacoma? I looked at a few 100 series but they seem to have more miles than I want. I will give a few more 4 runners a test drive. Maybe the last one I drove was a fluke and others are more comfortable.

Own them more than a few months or use them off-road and they will all need maintenance and repairs. :D The LC platform will simply cost the most. The 4.7 V8 in the Tundra/100/4Runner and the 4.0 is the same for the Taco/FJC/4R.

you should try buying something you don't like at all and maybe by some random happenstance you'll end up keeping it for more than 20 minutes :p

Four door Raptor didn't come out until 2011 so you'll be WAY over your $25K limit. You can easily find a 4 door JK for under that, but I don't think you'd like the back seat room.

With the jk it's more of the towing capability. I hated towing with my lj. Granted it did have 37's, no sway bars, triangulated in the rear and 4.56 gearing. But I imagine if I had a jk it'd turn into that again. I can't say a raptor doesn't cross my mind 5 times a week and be telling the truth. But I like not having loans and owning my junk so I can buy and trade and sell at my liesure. Maybe if I got a loan though I couldn't do that.
