...That's all it is. Contributing/supporting members of ExpUt are not a secret or exclusive club, there is no secret handshake, and nobody is trying to be better than anybody else. You do not have to be part of an "in" crowd to hang out at the forum or join trips planned in part to support the forum. I don't think I'm particularly part of any "in" crowd, I'm just a guy that hangs out at that forum and contributes as I can, and because I do that I got a head start on signing up for this years FYTO. I'm wicked stoked, I've tried to go the past two years and been shot down by truck trouble, so I've literally been waiting years for this :). For what it's worth, that list is not closed - there's ten more spots as of a couple moments ago.

Exactly, an had this thread come to life again in a few days it would have been open to all members of EU (assuming there is still room) as Stephen was planning to take it to the public forum on Friday anyways. :D

...To the best of my knowledge, none of you have been told you can't be a member over there. And if you aren't a member, why not? Sign up over there! Read some rad trip reports and research your own next trip and use the site, that's what it's there for. If you don't, and you show up out at Lucin anyway, you're totally welcome to join my fire. But you'll be missing out on an awesome forum.

Spot on and thanks for your comments Kevin. Absolutely nobody has been refused from EU and we've never banned a member either (to my knowledge). We are not a "all things 4x4 based" forum and for good reason, RME4x4 and others do that so much better. For that reason we don't have tech, classifieds or even general chit-chat type talk... rather we focus on researching and planning trips and hosting trip reports so others can do their own planning and researching. We would absolute love to see everybody read the reports, research their own and most importantly post their reports when it is done.

F35 , but I may only have about 4 post's .

So, you've not been shy about calling us out so I'll return the favor.

Your involvement with EU has been limited to 5 posts, one of which you deleted. You have never posted a single trip report or research article, never attended a planning meeting or monthly summit (that I know of) and have never posted in one of the past FYTO threads including 2013 which had the EXACT same participant limit and early invite to Sup/Con members as this year ;) So how are we supposed to involve you in EU if you have not made any effort to be involved?

For the record I was joking about not being in the club. It honestly doesn't bother me I wasn't invited and or included. I have a whopping 18 worthless posts on expedition Utah. It's an interesting site but unfortunately I just don't have much to contribute.

I think you guys are taking this wrong. I'm not involved with the planning of this trip and haven't been, but I am a supporting member at ExpUt.

I'm not a supporting member so that I can be a snob. I'm a supporting member because I value what that site offers, I use what that site offers, and I want to see it stick around. The guys that run the site want to see it stick around too, and they need help to do that. Just like any other venture of the sort, they have to raise funds somehow. One of the ways they're doing that is by planning "signature" trips as a way to raise awareness of the ExpUt forums, and they're providing advance knowledge and early signups to contributing/supporting members of the site to a) say thanks for contributing and b) encourage more folks to contribute, either through money or site content or both.

I don't see the point in beating on the guys at ExpUt who are planning this trip for opening the trip to members of the forum first. Well said. I echo Kevin's feelings and admiration for the Expedition Utah site. I use both RME and ExpUt often, but for different purposes. Getting upset that a group puts time and effort into an event that isn't open to the public first and foremost is misguided. Anyone is surely free to plan their own events and enjoy this great state on their own, but why get upset if a group wants to hold their own event?

Should I get pissed every time I don't get invited on a trip planned by Wasatch Cruisers for their club because I am not a member and I drive a Jeep? Should I get pissed every time any offroad club im not a member of holds an event I am not invited to? Nope. If I want to be included, I have to be willing to pay the price of admission. If I am not willing to pay the price, I am happy to move on down the road and do my own thing.

I wasnt calling out EU directly . Ive seen a ton of events like this start from (one person) grass roots, only a few show, then it gets bigger and bigger, then its invitation only . Just sucks to see things go that way . Look at Burning Man . That went to a Lottery system. Which pissed off alot of people worldwide .
I know it is private property but I dont think the artist would not want people to see his creation . I can see lowering the numbers for EU's driving tours to keep things from getting complicated but im sure other people still wanna see the tunnels that morning when the sun comes up .

And we don't have the right nor plan to attempt to stop anyone from doing so. Dozens of others totally unfamiliar with EU, RME, etc show up that evening or morning of and snap photos and leave. We just ask you don't infringe on our event if your not planning to actually be part of it. I don't think I need to defend it beyond that. It has been an ExpeditionUtah event since day one in 2009 and I don't feel like we need to sway from that. I don't care if people are pissed about Burning Man, EJS or Wasatch Cruisers events... we are still going to open early invite to our forum members, then open it up to the public forum and if/when room is still there... we may post it to neighbor forums. Totally up to Stephen and other event planners.

It looks like tacomaman99 is planning to be out there Friday night already, I'd suggest you guys network and enjoy.

I'm done defending this. If you have further questions, comments or concerns about an ExpeditionUtah event... perhaps post it over there ;)

By all means come out! Experience Utah! I'm not sure that some on here are understanding the purpose of planning an event like this. What EU is trying to accomplish is a bit more than just trail runs and camping. We strive to make each planned group outing an event, and events like this require more planning and prep. We tend to do things like have informational packets on the history of an area, we take time to research and provide information on where we go. Often we will plan dinner and even hors d'oeuvres provided by everyone in the group. And these type of logistics do require a head count, and yes sometimes a limit. Spend some time on EU and get a feel for what we have tried to create. A user generated encyclopedia of history, trips, stories and photos of Utah.

I haven't posted a lot over there, but what I have posted is pure gold. I would go this year, but my current job has blackout dates from mid Nov to mid Jan as far as time off.

Whoa, whoa, whoa there! I thought I was SUPPOSED to be giving everyone the middle finger every time I see them?

This explains a lot....

No, you're backwards. We're all supposed to give YOU the middle finger. I can see how you might think you'd need to return the favor though.

I was raised and lived in Rose Park for 35 years. It's the traditional greeting of my native culture. Hows about a little sensitivity here, sheesh...
