Went and tried Vantanas in Ogden tonight. meh....

The menu seemed pretty authentic. I just got a smothered carne asada burrito. It was HUGE!!! looked very impressive. But really was fairly bland.

The wife got some asada tacos and thought the same.

I really dont feel Im THAT picky. Maybe Im wrong

If you want good mexican in Utah better learn to make it yourself. The taco stand at the junkyards best authentic taco. La puente, la frontera, red iguana all suck in my book. I'm from So Cal as well and mis some good Mexican food. Buy some tamales next time your at walmart from the people selling them out side.

do you like real, authentic mexican food, or good americanized mexican food? If you're like me and like the more authentic stuff, places like la hacienda and los hermanos are just ok, and usually over-priced. I really REALLY love maria bonitas in orem. You get a HUGE plate full of food for around 7 bucks and it is pretty authentic. There is also a place called el mexiquense in AF that is really authentic and tasty.

I don't know if I'd call it good Mexican but I do enjoy Lone Star, but I'm with Carl, I enjoy a smothered burrito from the various La Puente (Fuente, Fountain, etc). I haven't had Red Iguana in a long time (probably more than 10 years) but when I did, I didn't like it. I may have just gotten a crappy dish, not sure.

I hit up Los Cucos again yesterday.. I had the Fajitas Mariachi on the lunch menu.. Grilled shrimp, chicken, and steak with the regular fajita fix-ins.. I opted for the tortilla soup over beans, and damn was that good. Massive helping of chips with two salsas greets you before you order.. Good sized portions of food, great tasting/quality food at good prices.

I love Los Cocus.

Lone Star is good, I stop by when I am in the area for lunch.

I am in St George right now and am getting ready to hit up Irmita's, I ate there 3 times last week. I would love to meet some of you there or anywhere else for lunch down here if you want.

Lorenas has steadily gone downhill since before it was Lorenas. Last time I was there with my family we walked out after 35 minutes of no waiter at our table and the food is decent less than 50% of the time nowadays. I go to Franciscos in Farmington whenever I get the chance. Best new restaurant around in my opinion.

For good Tamales, there is a guy who pushes around a grocery cart around 200 S. and 1600 W. around 5-7 pm. They are tastylicious.

The Lady in the Walmart or Maceys parking lots in Tooele from 5-7 M-F has some killer Tamales as well, Just look for the lady walking around with ziplock bags of Tamales :)

I'd wager you can get mezcal any place that has a liquor license.

A very common type of mezcal is this libation called "tequila" ;)

True, but TH is the first place i saw it on the menu, and they'll make you a few drinks with it. However, i'm not the biggest fan of mezcal served neat as it is a little too smokey for me. I do enjoy a good tequila straight:cool:
