Thanks for the tips, but not really my cup of tea. I don't know a whole lot about them except from second hand experiences from people who spent way more money than they should maintaining them.

I know my neighbor spent about $1700 a month for 6 months on maintenance for his range rover.

I'm glad you like yours though.

Buy a good one, and you won't have issues.

How do you do that? I'm with Steve, seems like everybody I know that's owned one has been nickeled to death and was happy to finally sell it. Not to bag on your truck, I know they're very capable and I'm glad that yours have worked out for you, but when a vehicle gets a reputation like Landrover has there's generally a reason.

Totally Awesome
I think the miss conceptions about Rovers come from the people who cannot read a factory service manual. People who can't figure out that the vehicle needs oil, antifreeze and fluid changes. I don't know how you could spend $1700 a month on a Range Rover unless you take it to the dealer every time something freaks out. Over the 4 years of ownership with my last Range Rover, I only put $3000 into it. And I include off-road springs, shocks, new wheels, and two sets of tires. That includes all maintenance and parts I had to replace. If you have metric tools and can read a book, you can keep a land rover running great.

Just my humble opinion though. I've owned Fords, Toyota's Mercedes, BMW, Land Rovers, Mitsubishi, Volkswagon and a few other brands. Fords have nickle and dimed me more then anything else has. My Powerstroke is way more expensive to run then anything else i have owned. My Volkswagen Passat bent me over. It was the worst car ever out of everything I have owned. I'm on my 35th vehicle now.

My current Rover has 148K miles on it and is very nice and clean. The only leak is the normal Power Steering Box leak. I'll dump a little stop leak in it and it'll stop leaking for a year, and then I'll dump more stop leak in it.

I'm going to go test drive a v8 runner and a gx470 tonight to see how I like them.

I'll be curious as to your opinion on the GX470, I've considered selling my 4runner and picking one up.
