The strange thing about it, I don't think it needed stock tires to pass. There really shouldn't be a problem with that jeep passing as long as it is mechanically sound and has mudflaps. The tread of the tires appears to be covered by the flares.

I wouldn't call it fraud either. I'd call it "preparing" for a test. Cheating a little, maybe. We've all done it to an extent.

What irritates me is that this jeep is nothing out of the ordinary. It's not a tube buggy that somebody is trying to pass off for a plate. It's not going to fall apart from shotty "fab" or illegal parts.

It sounds to me like the UHP guys wrote in a request to have the registration denied if the jeep was inspected and registered again without going directly to them for approval. And they didn't tell you about it because there was already some disagreement between the two parties... so it was their way of saying "F... you" in a way. That's how I'd take it.

If it were me, I'd waste more of their time for wasting yours. You have nothing to hide.

I agree on the tire swap. I would expect a "fix it ticket" on that and not a revocation, but it could be justified still. So with the 35" tires installed how close is it to the 24" frame right to be street legal? Unless you have too much lift, or not enough tire coverage you still should be able to make it legal with the 35" tires.

I agree, it shouldn't have needed stockers to pass, but if the station wouldn't have passed it then there was obviously a reason for it. Maybe Goat just mis-understood the reasoning and really he only needed to get mudflaps and the correct bumper on??? I've heard of LEOs being asses but the only thing I've ever heard of stations doing is being sticklers (which, if it were my business and livelihood on the line, I'd be a stickler too). I still stand by what I said, just because everyone else is doing it, it doesn't make it right or legal.

Yup, my point exactly. FWIW, I had 35s on both of my wranglers (my YJ and my TJ) and both were 100% legal, so I know for a fact it's doable.

I think it would pass also with the 35s, but it might need wider flares. I think it needed a reflector in the back because the LEDs aren't a reflector. It may have needed rear side marker lights and a license plate light. Other than that, it should be legal.

I got nailed on a mudflap violation a few weeks ago. No fix it ticket, just a flat fine of $40. And, to add insult to injury, this was my tow rig that I've been driving daily for almost seven years!

I wonder how much of what I see as a "crackdown", is due to pending budget cuts? If you ask me, I think they're just out collecting revenue now.

I with Bart on this one. This is a uhp officer with a grudge out to show marcus who has more power! End of story! Here is another example of them getting out of line. Last week my buddy got stop in a 2000 tacoma with 6" fatech on 285/75/16 on a 8" rim, no mud flaps, flares and clear corners and they revoked his safety. In my opinon that's equivlent to revoking someones DL for going 8 over. It should be no more than a fix it ticket on the first offense.

I think that's playing in to this stuff a ton. I think the are trying to fluff their numbers to justify their salaries and head count.

What

Ok haveing done some city goverment time I will tell you know that had any of are officers done what the 2 did by going to the boss and saying thing they would have been on unpaid leave. Games are games but there gets to a point were you call lawyers. Have you done everything right no. You new it would not pass and you new why and them you only fixed things to get it though. If it needs new bumpers then put them on as well as lights as need.

But the officers that did this should also be asked when they became judges as well.

This is fraud. He defrauded the system. If he had kept everything he did to get it to pass safety on as his DD, then it would be a different story.

It's not my jeep nor is it a daily driver. < 500 miles yearly. I was bewildered in my first post because the officer spoke with my GM questioning my integrity. He doesn't know me, and a gun/badge doesn't justify that.

It seems like we are only getting one side of the story here.

Probably. maybe there's a UHP forum out there........

agreed

Why don't you just make the Jeep legal? You put this on yourself. I'm watching and reporting to the UHP.

the jeep was legal and you can't be serious.......

Not sure if you know but, Devel got pulled over a month up here in Clearfield going the speed limit but no flaps. Once pulled over, two UHP DOT officers did a walk around. Same, no side markers, license plate lite, winow tint, and mud flaps. And Oh yeah a completely unmarked truck. Even in a Blue color I think. Seen a couple more sinse then. I think that there are some marching orders from above them. Just think, Bigger tires+no flaps+2 or 3 beers= possible hornets nest.

IMO, he was 100% completely out-of-line to do that. I would have raised hell over it...someone (and it would not have been me) would have either lost their job or been so badly reprimanded they'd be better off quitting.
