IMO, he was 100% completely out-of-line to do that. I would have raised hell over it...someone (and it would not have been me) would have either lost their job or been so badly reprimanded they'd be better off quitting.

This is Hickey we are talking about, he's always serious. He and the Highway Patrol are quite close afterall. :)

You know, I just wanted the whole thing behind me before the holidays and didn't say a thing. I also figured that they would have felt like they accomplished something and left me be.

Funny thing was, after questioning my integrity, the GM (who's a bishop) told them the exact same thing regarding sending vehicles out for inspection.

Met hickey once, never discussed law enforcement.

Hey everyone! What's up? It's me, the one who actually OWNS the Jeep.

I'd like to put in my 2 cents now...

First of all, I'd like to openly apologize to Marcus for all the trouble this has caused him. His attempt(s) to get my Jeep through the emissions process was done purely out of love and consideration for my financial situation and vehicular retardedness. When super troopers realized that the vehicle was not acutally his, they should have stopped right there and come to MY work and pounded down MY principal's office and tell her what a bad person I am for owning a vehicle that wasn't street legal. None of their attitude was necessary. That emissions place was already under a sting operation for passing too many cars. Marcus was just doing what EVERYBODY else does when it comes to passing emissions, "fake it till you make it". It's the golden rule of the road. Even I know that... the fact that ANYONE on RME is going to shake their stinky finger at Marcus for trying to get my built Jeep passed is, in my mind, dead to me. And believe me, you don't want to be dead to me....

Secondly, telling me that my Jeep needs reflectors is the funniest and dumbest thing I've ever heard. If you need reflectors to see my Jeep driving down the road, then you're BLIND. You can't miss my Frankenjeep. It's kinda like the Weinermobile - and even THAT got registered.....

Lastly, there's nothing any of us can do about it but take it up the a$$, and that's just part of the trials and tribulations of this "hobby". The lady I spoke to told me what I need to to do drop the revocation. I just need to take the Jeep and my safety inspection document to their office, have one of their people look at it, and they'll pass it. If they give me any trouble, I'll just put on my "I'm just a dumb girl" act and start crying, and see how that works...After this is over, I'll put my regular tires back on and be done with it for another year. I drive the damn thing once every two weeks to work and back. The only other time that thing sees the light of day is when it's on a trail.

Really, there are more important things to worry about. With all the other CRAP I've got going on in my life, this is just a drop in the bucket. I've got bigger fish to fry. Current score: Smokey - 1, Jenny - 0. FU I quit.

Have a nice night everyone...see you when it's warm outside. Marcus always said he imagines himself driving away from Utah, and looking in the rearview mirror to see the state burning to the ground. Well, count me in. This state can blow me.

This is the first year that our daily driver jeep is fully legal... and I will admit that in the past I have done every trick in the book to get it passed. Fact is, they are cracking down on us and it's obvious. They are not, however, cracking down on the low riders with dark tint and tires that stick out twice as far as my jeeps. Noooo no. Those are too dangerous to pull over. They might have a knife.

I'm sick of it too. Anybody on this board who says that they haven't had to pull a few tricks out of the bag to get their rig passed (if even once) is a full of it.

I really want to see some traffic statistics of Colorado & Utah of accidents or incidents caused by probable equipment failure. In my opinion - it's more of a state income thing than a safety thing. /soapbox

I might add that this is my very personal stance and not affiliated with RME or any other organization that I may be involved with.

Just bugs me that other-even neighboring states will let about anything fly.

I understand the whole compliance thing, I really do. There comes a time, like when my wife was pulled out of the fast lane at 70mph--scary merging through cars to the shoulder with a disregard to other's safety made a mudflap call which resulted to a simple fix it ticket bla bla bla. The Chief who signed off the ticket was pissed that an officer would create such a time waster of a situation and I totally agree. That is the situation where I scoff at the badge wearing "enforcers" and consider them more of a nuisance.

ok haveing done some city goverment time i will tell you know that had any of are officers done what the 2 did by going to the boss and saying thing they would have been on unpaid leave. Games are games but there gets to a point were you call lawyers. Have you done everything right no. You new it would not pass and you new why and them you only fixed things to get it though. If it needs new bumpers then put them on as well as lights as need.

But the officers that did this should also be asked when they became judges as well.

wtf?

San Antonio, Texas. No EMI, and you don't need a safety to register and get your sticker. However, only about 50% of motorists have insurance, and it cost twice as much as UT.

But do you get hassled while driving your out of state rig here? I assume you don't drive it much but that's my problem....

Register it out of state but can still get a ticket.

Heres my saga

Im leaving Moab the morning after the first of the year, and As im heading out of town I see the sheriff and a statey at the gas station filling up, well I wasnt speeding, the rover was securly on the trailer, and I just drove by.

Well about 3 miles later the state trooper catches up to me and pulls ,me over..

He said it was because my window tint was too dark, Im OK with that, i knew it was and I figured it was a matter of time before I got a fix it ticket. then he made a comment, and asked me why my rover had a license plate on it. I told him it had a plate because it is my vehicle, and thats the plate for it, he then said" well, its not street legal, you have no mud flaps on the back". I said i just modified it last month, and its on a trailer and not on the road, im not driving it, so why is this even a issue.. Well he was ok with that reasoning and walked back to his cruiser to give me my fix it ticket.

Well then the sheriff walks up to my wifes window and says" I need to see your registration and insurance for the vehicle on the trailer. I said Why, he then told me that it was not street legal and it shouldnt be registered and that the plate in now invalid, I told him I have the info, but im not gonna give it to him, be cause im not driving it on the road, and I told him that i have mud flaps at home that are removable so it makes it street legal, and that i trailered it to the trail head. well he then said huh! and walked away..

So a couple minutes go by and I see the sheriff taking pictures of my rover from all sides, and I saw him looking up underneath it at my axles.. So i roll my window down and say " SIR, can i speak to you? he came to my window and I said " why are you taking pictures of my vehicle, he said " i am documenting it", I said why, he said because its not street legal with the rear tires exposed, and that it shouldnt have a plate and he was documenting pictures of it! Then he said all these rock buggy types come into town and drive vehicles not street legal and think that they own this place, So I asked him if he pulls everyone over, and he said we try! I am soooooooo PIssed at this point, he told me the state patrol officer would explain it when he gave me my ticket..

OK so the statey walks up and gives me my fix it ticket for my tint, i told him i understand, i was planning on changing it no worries.. And he started to leave, he wasnt gonna tell me **** about what the sheriff was doing with pictures... So i asked him, why was the sheriff taking pictures of my truck he said it was documentation.. the state patrol said " QUOTE" " ohh huh, well hes just into rock crawlers and jeeps and stuff and he thinks this is cool and wanted some pictures.. so At this point im really pissed! well i bit my lip took it in the ass and left..

THis is total bullshit that I was hasseled about my rover on MY trailer, it was not even on the road..

Ohh and he told me he flagged my rover plate in their system saying it wasnt street legal for no flaps, beadlocks, and rear end mod leaving the tires exposed and I may get a letter from the DMV for my plate being revoked!

So theres my story from this year..

Any lawyers here? I want to know the whole on the trailer-get's a ticket story. There is no way that a cop can come to your driveway and write you up if you are midway through a project and forgot to pull the license plate off at the exact time that it became illegal.

I hope everyone gets there issues resolved. However, has anyone been harrased/had registration revoked etc when the vehicle is legal?

Doesn't seem like it.

I know games are played to get vehicles passed, be it safety or emmissions. Obviously UHP does as well! However, the laws and requirements needed to make a vehicle street legal apply all the time, not just at the time of the inspection. UHP knows that, too.

So, who here cares enough to do more than gripe?

If the laws are unreasonable, too strict, stupid or whatever, do something about it!

Work with or put together some 'advocacy group', and find a member of the state legislature, discuss the concerns with them and see if a reasonable compromise can be reached. I would suggest starting the process after this year's session ends so it can be studied and details worked out before hand.

Having been involved with legislative issues the past couple of years, I can say that I have been pleasantly surprised at how willing to work with people the members of the legislature can be.
