I hope everyone gets there issues resolved. However, has anyone been harrased/had registration revoked etc when the vehicle is legal?
Doesn't seem like it.
I know games are played to get vehicles passed, be it safety or emmissions. Obviously UHP does as well! However, the laws and requirements needed to make a vehicle street legal apply all the time, not just at the time of the inspection. UHP knows that, too.
So, who here cares enough to do more than gripe?
If the laws are unreasonable, too strict, stupid or whatever, do something about it!
Work with or put together some 'advocacy group', and find a member of the state legislature, discuss the concerns with them and see if a reasonable compromise can be reached. I would suggest starting the process after this year's session ends so it can be studied and details worked out before hand.
Having been involved with legislative issues the past couple of years, I can say that I have been pleasantly surprised at how willing to work with people the members of the legislature can be.
My biggest problem with the law is that it seems to be biased. Mildly modified Jeeps are getting flagged or written fix a tickets - who was it a year or two ago that had a stock XJ get a fix it ticket on the highway? I see so many lifted to the sky super duties on the road. They are lifted (8-12") way more with way more tire exposed than we have. How does that work? Larger/same size tires and more lift, but we're getting hounded?
I have no problem following the law if everyone else has to as well. If they are goign to enforce it with me, then they need to enforce it clear across the board. I feel in UT they do not. However, so far I feel WA does - even though I've been pulled over more times up here than in UT. Up here all of those big trucks also have big mudflaps.
