heroin is against the law.. and look how many people in utah county are doing that..

banning guns would just leave us all helpless to the people who would still illegally get guns

the saying goes:
"if you outlaw guns, only outlaws will have guns"

so help me i hope this doesn't cause the cost of .223 rounds to go up again. they aren't "banning" them per se. theyare making them so expensive to shoot that its almost not worth it

no, i will not re-load ammo to save cash. i'm not that guy, don't suggest it.

If you restrict guns, you only restrict law abiding citizens from having guns. Bad guys will always have/get guns. Look at Chicago most restricted city in America, oddly enough has one of the highest murder/crime rates in the country.

I deal with the worst 1% of people in our society on a day to day basis, i'm not afraid of Joe CFP having his weapons, I'm afraid of the people I deal with illegally having weapons. If you restrict the weapons you only take it from Joe CFP holder, not Mr. Bad Guy

correct me if i am wrong, that is the same reason tinted windows is not allowed past a certain point, it's not for the driver's ability to see out, it is because it is difficult for officers to assess the situation (and presence of weapons) inside the car? right?

I'm not sure of the official reason for the law, but I can tell you it's scary crap walking up on a car you know has 4-5 bad guys in it with blacked out windows

Banning all firearms is ridiculous - and I don't think that is what's being suggested here. It appears to be around assault rifles, specifically...and high-capacity magazines.

I don't see how banning high capacity mags does anything? A trained person can do a reload in about 2 seconds....... if a person is this determined to do what they are going to do, how does a lower capacity mag change anything? other than they bring more mags with them. All the recent shootings the shooters have had multiple mags with them anyway

^^Agreed. Did you hear about the recent stabbing spree in China? Kind of the same situation as today, he targeted 20+ children and stabbed them all. We can ban every weapon out there, but if some nut job wants to hurt people, he'll find a way to do it.

I never knew there were so many people that wanted to kill themselves while killing other people. Suicide bombers, suicide killers we sure have a lot of frustrated, sick people out there.

Firearms are responsible for a death rate of 0.0035-0.005% in this country. Clearly the emotional response far exceeds actual problems.

EDIT: and if I hear one more "BAN ASSAULT WEAPONS" plea go out tonight, when nearly all firearm murders in the US, that tiny percentage, are done with handguns, and no "assault weapon" was used in this horrible, senseless massacre, I am going to scream.

All teachers should not be trained and required to carry guns. Many of them are scared of guns and panic severely in emergency situations. They are just like everyone else. Teachers that want to carry and can prove they are proficient should be allowed to carry at school. The kids don't need to know. The entire faculty doesn't need to know. The principal and the teachers carrying should all be made aware of each other. That is all that need to know. They should be trained to respond to situations similar to the first responders in the school are. I believe a small team of trained reliable teachers in the school could do a sufficient job. Would this stop everyone for getting killed no, but it would stop massacres from happening.

It would never happen but imagine how school shootings would change after the district announced the new school swat team program.

It isn't feasible in high schools and junior high schools, but elementaries should be locked up tight. Every person that enters the doors through the fromt doors only should have eyes on them.

There is no way to keep people from killing people. It is impossible. We can only prevent.

I read that mass shootings stopped by police on average 14.3 people die, but a shooting that is stopped by a citizen carrying a concealed weapon is on average 2.3. I told my wife that could have been only 4 dead including the shooter not 28. And think if the janitor that ran around warning everyone had firearm he could have just shot the kid. Also I want to know who the weapons are registered to if it was the mom why did she not put them away in a safe knowing her son had the mental instability he did? If they try to take away gun rights they are crazy most every mass shooting taking place is done by irresponsible people, just reminds me I need to get my conceal carry asap.

This couldn't have happened in a worse area. The liberals elected Obama, they certainly can get some new gun laws passed. Go listen to Obama's statement on the shooting. He made a comment that something will need to be done that will be politically unpopular
