No signs where posted last fall either. I've never driven to the Rincon because with my luck, I'd be the one they decide to ticket.

I'm not familiar with the area, so forgive my ignorance... If there wern't any signs, there must have been a rumor or plan of closure? Signs are tell-tell of legality of best...

I'd like to run the Rincon, its been on my list for sometime now... :(

Years ago they had signs all over the place. They're mostly all gone now. The area is so remote that they probably cant keep up with the vandals.

I've run Hole In The Rock 5 times. Would be glad to lead a trail run down there.

Well with a username like yours... you better know the area :D:p

I might take you up on the offer, do you live in the area?

Any idea if the famed Rincon trail is open?

We ran the Rincon to the top of the drop down to the river last august. Be careful he got me to move to UT so I could run “hole in the rock” more times a year. Courtney even has a video of our trips he made that you can play in your DVD. If you like your shocks don’t try to go in and out in one day plus you can’t see it all if you try to go that fast. Plus this is not just a few rocks there are some major obstacles to over come. Gas water food 75 miles from the closest town are just a few.

Kurt, you use Igage's All Topo software right? I have the GPS tracks saved from my last trip. I can send them to you if you want them.

Lets plan it, a couple months in advance so we can all make arrangements to go. You could even be the official cook too  Mabey Bryson can call it his honeymoon..

Olly might have a worthy rig by then too...

What we're figuring is get it planned now, set up the dates and such and then see how many are going to come. I'm looking into what's quicker, going to Bullfrog and taking the ferry across to Halls Crossing, or go around the top of the Lake.

As for the Rincon, the problem is that the NPS claims it as their's and wants it closed, probably from people camping on shore and leaving trash. On the other hand San Juan county claims the road as theirs, so they go out and take down the NPS signs. So, it's kind of up in the air.

I've wanted to run this trail for years, so I'm definately getting this together. Gotta replace a fuel tank on the Jeep first though! How about we tentatively plan for Sept 27-28th through Oct 1st?

Should work for me... I'm even down for a little bit later so that other "summer" activities slow down. Your the boss, pick a date!

I'll talk to Cody or wait for him to respond on here. Should be a fun trip though.

Not quite vandals, just San Juan county officals :p

I wonder if the county officials pulled down and burned the big wooden boundary sign? Maybe. Except I thought they liked to collect them as trophies.
