Hole in the rock trail

There are signs on the trail that are point of interest telling you what the road was and such. Up on gray mesa there are out of boundary stakes that keep you on the main trail. You get to the end of the main trail and there is point of interest sign telling you were you are. The road in maintained to the swamp, witch I sure stops some vehicles. We normally camp about 5 or 6 miles in just be for the swamp.

Is this on the Hole in the Rock trail or Rincon?

From what I've read, the swamp is on Hole In the Rock (Grey Mesa) Could be pretty tough if it's wet. The pics I've seen show that it can get pretty muddy there.

Up to the swamp it’s slow but easy, and no its not on gray mesa the swamp is only 4.5 or so miles in, it’s before Lake Canyon even. The turn off to the Rincon in after you get up on gray mesa. We have often wondered one good rain will take the swamp out. But it is strange to come up on a 3or 4 foot deep, leach filled water crossing in southern Utah.

Leech filled huh? Remind me not to get out of my Jeep when we get to that. Do you know how full that might be during late summer or fall?

That pics was from 2002.....has it gotten bigger or maybe they just went in a dryer time of the year? How do you get through the swamp if it's that big? And in your link, is the pond/river/whatever thing the swamp?

Yea thats the swamp taken in 01 the last week of august. the photos of the blazer with the soft top are all taken on that trail. I'm not sure that the photo with the land rovers is taken in the same place we have run that trail 3 or 4 time in the last 4 or 5 years and I have not seen that place, you can stay to the west side and get though. I still find it strange that you have to get though a swamp. We have 100 of photos if you have the time to come look at them.

I'd be interested in seeing them sometime. Where are you at?

Yeah you would think that they would move the road around the swamp to do less damage or something. But, I guess you get to stick the original trail.

I live in layton, there is not a great many ways to get though that part of the trail, there are a lot of places on that trail that you can do anything but follow the old road. By the way your not on the old road though there, the old road was washed out in 1915 or so. Cort knows more about that.

I dont think its from 02 there is a lot more damage to the road now than that photo shows. And not just the swamp but the road to the south is nice in that photo and now its very washed out. It was washed out in 01.
