but driving in the HOV lane just to be in the HOV lane is just plane stupid. It's about as inconsiderate and rediculous of a premise as I've heard all day. It sounds like it wasn't even during a busy time of day so he didn't even need to be there.

I can understand people that have a need for a vehicle like that. But I'm a big fan of practicality. I try and drive vehicles that are as practical as possible for their intended use. Driving the occasional child or two around at 60 mph isn't practical for a 6000# v8 7 seat suv--even if it does defy all bounded science by achieving 22 mpg. Happy valley is just full of miracles isn't it!

If you have a commute, buy a commuter car. If you have to tow, buy a tow rig. If you have to fit lots of chill'ens, buy a big SUV or mini van. If want to look like an idiot, buy a sami. If you have no personality and want to score with stupid sorority chicks, buy a bullet bike. This isn't rocket science here.

Cody, could you pontificate what you mean by ""but driving in the HOV lane just to be in the HOV lane is just plain stupid""...If I met the minimum requirements for being in the HOV lane and I am doing 65mph I can't be in that lane? How is that being inconsiderate? It was not a busy time of day, so why CAN'T I be in that lane?

I too am a fan of practicality. Hence the purchase of the Sequoia, here in happy valley there are big families, I am not excluded. So it is the kid hauler. I also like to tow, the sequioa just happens to have a V8, perfect for what I need to tow. It also came with a very small price tag. My vehicle as previously mentioned is getting a complete overhaul, so I either bike it or take my other vehicle.........UTA .

On a side note, my brother has a Sami, whenever I get in it, (I am 6'5 pushing 300), I look like Mr. Incredible in the sami. I look like a dufus in that thing!!:D:rolleyes:

Not going to speak for Cody, but I'm assuming his comments are direct at the fact you openly admitted you drive 60mph, to apply his words to all variables doesn't work. I too think it is inconsiderate to do 60mph in any lane on the freeway, let alone the HOV or fast lane, that is just asinine IMO.

That's a scenario I completely disagree with. Slower traffic should stay right, but no where does that give somebody the right to fly through going 100 MPH and expect others to move out of their way. That's ridiculous and dangerous.

I hope you have really good insurance and don't ever kill anybody...

x2, 100 mph is quite excessive, at that point that person driving may think themselves above the law and everyone should move out of the way, just because they are going faster. You share the road, you don't own it....

Sorry guys, I wasn't saying I drive that fast, 80 is about the upper limit for me. I was just using that 100 as an example to show that no matter how fast someone else is going, it is your (and my) responsibility to move to the right. If we are interested in obeying the law that is it. If we are interested in being vigilantes then block all them law breakers in so they can't break the law. But then again vigilante justice is against the law too. Now, I'm not saying that I never break the law, cause I do plenty. I just try not to infringe upon others rights as long as they don't infringe upon mine. Not trying to offend or get anyone hot and bothered, just my $.02

You should always move out of the way af faster moving traffic (when safe to do so) even if they are reckless. If you as a safe driver will move they can continue on their way. If you choose to try and slow them all that is going to happen is they will cut across any lanes they need to to get around you, often getting more reckless in the process.

and the minimum speed for Interstate travel in utah is 45mph. That is the minimum speed automobiles are required to drive to be on the interstate. that is why some scooters are not allowed on Interstate

No worries man... I re-read it later and figured that you weren't admitting to driving like that, but rather making a point.

are you spoon feeding me here? Can you make it any easier?

Here, let me refresh your memory with your posts.

Anyway, tonight I am on the way home and I have my step-daughter and son in the car with me and I am cruising at 60 mph in HOV.

in addition...
It was not a busy time of day, so why CAN'T I be in that lane?

So, not only have you already planted yourself ass over tea-kettle under the bus (so to speak)by admitting that you were not even doing the speed limit in a lane SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED to speed the flow of traffic, but you also admit to doing it when you don't even need to. Thus, you find yourself charged with the incredibly difficult task of comprehending why you are riding in the HOV lane just for shits and giggles.

Thoughts? Do I have poor HOV values?

Back to the original question. Yes. Absolutely, unequivocally, you do. Further, you aren't even prepared to accept the truth about the entire situation. You could have driven in the far right lane and offered no obstruction to the speeding villainous swine that so rudely rode your ass as you were in their path. Instead, you took the time to MERGE across 4 lanes of traffic while trying to shove the new wooden block you picked up from the magic gas mileage fairly down the street beneath the gas pedal in the effort to thwart evil and reckless speeding all while keeping a little extra change in your pocket.

Obviously you were looking for someone to jump on your delusional bandwagon and label you the hero and savior of responsible and economic freeway use. I apologize that you didn't get it. But don't give up so soon. There is always someone that will buy crazy.

Was that sufficient pontification?

edit: BTW, that was a horrible use of the word "pontificate". Not so much as it generally applies to dogmatic conjecturing (because we can make that stretch), but more in the absolute ***** slap you put on proper sentence structure while using it. Not that I'm really without fault--I do after all use 18 words where 1 will do, but I try not to be redundant.

I was kind of being egged on by Dom here......so I may have gone a little overboard.

It's all good entertainment and I hope people don't really take me seriously. I would hate to have people bite their tongue in fear of me mashing the keyboard at them.

Not to still be on that bandwagon but if there was not a lot of traffic to begin with the guy speeding should have known better then to get in the hov lane.

What I find funny is I will see people cut across 3 lanes of traffic, drive 90mph but when they get in the hov they wont cross the double lines to go around someone. why they choose to follow that law but break every other law amazes me.

That being said I also see people cross the double lines all the time

My bad brett. Why don't you start a thread with random words and phrases and I'll just pick them off one by one. Once I get to 100, everyone owes me a cupcake.

--Bronco--you know, I never thought of it that way. I usually drive about 75 on the freeway, but won't cross the double whites. I guess my reasoning is that I don't want to give them any more reason to come give me trouble. I haven't had a ticket in eight years and I want to keep it that way.

....but if I was in the HOV lane doing 65 and came up to someone dong 60, then broke the double white to pass and got a ticket because of it, I would be seriously bent out of shape. Seriously, at 60 mph you would probably only get to a brake in the double white about once every 45 minutes. Who is that patient?

Horrible use? I think that this definition sums you up perfectly.

pontificate - To speak or behave with exaggerated authority.

lol, I told you that the stretch is ok (even though the word is derived from "pontif", it is commonly used outside of religious contexts these days), it was the way you used it that sounded so awful.

Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe saying "pontificate what you mean" isn't as redundant as I find it. I could be the idiot. Lets open it up to the gallery....

I think overall you're just butt-hurt because we're not jumping on your bandwagon.
