Over the summer my plans had evolved to 114" on 42's, full hydro, 4spd atlas, Bilstien coilovers and Jounce air bumps.... aside from what I already have into it and with considerable help from friends I was looking at $15k additional.

Over the last couple months I have been thinking more and more that it would be a far better idea to just buy a buggy for $15k~$20k.... and with that, last weekend while rolling around Moab there were some drastic changes made to my plans for this TJ.

I will now be pushing it to LJ wb, long arm on the front, double triangulated on the back, coils, Atlas II, assist instead of full hydro, TBI 350, 700R4, D60, 14bolt, tube fenders, body armor, most likely 36's and most importantly... streetable. Although it will still be trailered most of the time. This will be built for up to Prichett level, and then I will save up to buy a buggy.

I will begin this as soon as the weather breaks, and I think with some luck and help from my friends I can complete it for around and additional $3~4k, a good part of which will be the Atlas.

Sounds pretty good, you will love the LJ wheelbase. Why only 36's? Personally I think that's a pretty small tire for 1 Ton axles, a V8 and 102-106" of wheelbase. I think 38's would be more appropriate... that TBI 350 will have the power to turn bigger tires. Don't you have 4.56's?

Good call on hydro assist rather than full hydro. I like my full hydro, but it's a bit sketchy at speed.

There's nothing wrong with keeping coils, I like them, they are cheap and work well. Some kind of rockcrawling anti-sway bar will help much with stability, that Dual Rate Teraflex sway bar I added was one of the best purchases I made... great for the street and predictable on the trail.

Look for deals on used Atlas t-cases... I paid $1400 for mine. ;)

I'll run my 38.5's if I can, but I need to keep things tucked in so I can have it licensed.

I do have 4.56's

Yeah I hope to catch a good deal on a used Atlas.... I hope to start the first part of March. One thing I forgot that I need to get which is pretty pricey is a good fuel tank :-\

I like the new plans but think a 37" tire is a better choice. Pretty much how I built my LTJ. If you can build it for twice what you're estimating, I'd be surprised. Good luck.

How about selling your 38x14.5 SX's and DIY beadlocks and trade them for 38x12.5 SX's on H1 wheels? You'd have a narrow tire and lots of backspacing, I bet with some fender flares you'd be close to legal.

I figured on using my recentered H1s which haven't been recentered yet.... so I can put them however wide they need to be to work. :)

There ya go. I like those 38x12.5 SX's, Shane seems to be quite happy with them. If I wasn't going to step up to 40's, that's probably the tire I would have ran.

I had to order the right input shaft and adapter for my trans, those should be here Monday hopefully.

Now I'm going to have to either retube my Chev D60 or build a driver D60 from scratch :-\

Your friends will help you. Quit buying drivetrain parts and start buying joints, links, and steel so we can help you build a roller first:p

Oh, and I would hate to think you and Angelina Jolie have the same tattoo
