I've wanted to get a project like this going for awhile now, and with the new racks that Utah Powder Coatings is crankin out, I saw my opening.
Utah Powder Coatings is stock piling their new roof racks down at thier shop in Provo. Since these racks are customizable at 6" incriments, I had a 42x24" rack with 2" high sides running the length built for my interior cargo rack.
Here's a shot of their basic rack right after welding.. So not cleaned up, and pre powder-coating..
Here's a slew of XJ racks in their most basic form, awaiting the next step of welding the side/basket pieces on. IIRC these are 3x4.5'..
Stackin up in the assembly line..
Some progress Friday night... Rob and I are building a mounting system that will bolt to the OE utilitrack in the Xterra. It stands 17.5"s tall to clear majority of coolers and my action packer. The rack will bolt to the mounting system. I'll secure camping gear to the rack, and maintain easy access to cooler/storage without having to constanly move crap around.
