I started a new job a few weeks ago.

I really liked doing the longhaul trucking, but the company I was with was the wrong one to have invested my time into.

I still have other work goals than construction but for now, having a heavy equipment background made it pretty easy to get back into the industry. I’m not sure how long I’ll be here but it seems like a good company.

My previous employer (the asphalt paving company) found out I was back in Utah and offered me dang good money, even more than I was making in Hawaii. But I do not want to be back with that company so I declined.

This is my new daily now. It’s a 2021 D6 with GPS machine control. I’d honestly rather be in a grader than a dozer but this isn’t bad.

Biggest requirement is a decent ability to weld GMAW, FCAW, SMAW, and GTAW processes proficiently and feeling comfortable teaching it.

Pay is decent and is salary, not hourly. Benefits are awesome. Super flexible and a massive amount of PTO and Paid Holidays.

You could check on delivering pizza for Dominos on the weekend. In WVC they pay $11 an hour, 0.58 a mile, and you keep all of your tips. They pay every Friday. Uniform was black shoes, black not jean pants, and a black belt. My goal was to make $100 a night from all three revenue streams and it wasn't too hard to do in a four or five hour shift. Really its kind of luck though. How many orders come in verses how many people they have delivering that night.

I stopped for the summer because my beater car doesn't have AC but plan to start back up here in the next month or so.

Brother,
I delivered for dominos probably 20 years ago and I loved it! Many years of driving my beater car around, belly full of pizza listening to tunes. If both my vehicles weren't V8's I'd already be working there. But good to know the WVC locations pull $100 a night.

The dominos near me has delivery cars, not sure how that works with getting paid, or if they have them out there.

My side job I work for Common Cents Casino Parties. They're always looking for new people, especially in Fall and Winter. Just dealing Card/Casino games for corporate events, birthday parties, fundraisers, etc. I do it a ton and made about $3k in December alone.

Not crazy reliable though as it is event based and gets much slower in the summer. Personalized schedule though, you just sign up for whatever parties you can do.

"My" store has company vehicles you can use. You forfeit the mileage but keep your hourly and tips. When I told the manager I needed to take the summer off and why she tried to get me to use the company car. Depending on how many deliveries you get just the mileage can be $20+. If you think about it it makes sense that most of the deliveries are at the edge of the delivery area. Lots of runs out on magna main street or in the apartments by winco. To earn my goal I felt like I needed to hold on to the mileage money. For my situation, I see my time as being more valuable than $11 an hour. If it was slow or there were a ton of drivers working I was not content to sit around and do busy work. I always offered to go home. If the weather was bad I always went in early because it was busy and other drivers would flake and no show.

They don't have the e-bikes there any more. An outfit from Hawaii bought a ton of stores in northern Utah from corporate in 2020 so a bunch has changed apparently. One thing is they jacked the prices for everything on the menu and took away a bunch of the coupons.

I made decent money working Mondays and Thursdays. I thought Saturday was going to be big but they always scheduled a lot of people to drive in the 6-9 pm range so you had to wait between runs.

The store off 5600 west and 6400 south is supposed to be a real good one for drivers. Its inside the walmart. The guy that told me that is a talker though so who knows how reliable it is.

My insurance (safeco, as well as bear river previously, and I believe many others) specifically excludes any commercial use whatsoever. I’m not willing to get a commercial policy for pizza delivering, or risk getting caught in an accident and then having my insurance deny the claim.

Guess I can just shut my pie hole if I got nothing positive to say 😂

But I definitely thought about delivering for extra cash in the past.

Small world, my mother-in-law has worked there for several years. She loves it! She’s been retired for a decade and just takes parties whenever she needs extra cash or social time.
