My side job I work for Common Cents Casino Parties. They're always looking for new people, especially in Fall and Winter. Just dealing Card/Casino games for corporate events, birthday parties, fundraisers, etc. I do it a ton and made about $3k in December alone.

Not crazy reliable though as it is event based and gets much slower in the summer. Personalized schedule though, you just sign up for whatever parties you can do.
Soopa,
Thanks for this! I reached out and sent them my resume.

My little brother is looking for someone to work with him. If you are or know someone in the plumbing trade and are interested please give him a call. He is open to someone at any experience level and will pay accordingly, pretty much all work is in Utah County and 90% new home construction. He is good at what he does and a really good guy, I would work for him in a second.

I think I am pretty serious about Looking for a job. I have not worked for anyone besides myself in my adult life. I’ve got no schooling, no ‘job experience’ in anything but residential appraisals, but I’m fairly competent in general I think. However, Pretty computer illiterate, and I don’t think I’m a salesman.
I’d have to make about 70k to make it work, closer to 90k would be swell.
I’m almost 40 yrs old, and only getting older.
I’d like to trade my current high risk high reward life for more stability and less stress.

What kind of jobs would be available for a guy like me?

For reals? Dang dude things must be tuff.

You know I can always get you a job. It won’t be at $70k on Year one but would definitely end up there.

It’s slow for sure, but I’ve had worse.
I think the biggest part for me is that I have realized how happy I am in the evenings hanging out with my family. I’ve never had the ability to clock out and not still be at work. I’m either always working or always being stressed about missing work or always being stressed about not having work.
I think I’d like to try being an employee who doesn’t have to create business for once.

If you’re okay with less money, or able to make it work, I would suggest looking at local government jobs. City or state jobs are very chill. I’ve been in a state college position for 5.5 of the last 6 years. I make significantly less than anybody in the private sector for my trade, but in my opinion, the benefits significantly outweigh the pay.

Not trying to brag, but here’s some of the things I get.

-14% employer funded donation of my salary into my 401k every pay check, regardless if I contribute or not.
-2 weeks vacation, 2 weeks sick to start, accruing, 2 personal days every year
-Around 12 holidays paid off per year
-free UTA pass
-and my favorites, I’m home every single day at nearly the same time, I rarely need to work OT, if I do stay late one day, I leave early the next. OT is available at times, but I usually choose to not work it.
-also, many state employees work four 10’s

I'm in the same situation. I've been working for the U for seven years now and while I know I could go private and make $50-$70k more doing essentially the same job; the benefits and low stress keep me here. Especially with a young family, it's nice to just clock out at the end of the day and not have to think about work again until the next morning.
I have two side businesses that make up some of the difference in pay, but at least those are doing what I want to do and I can ramp them up and down depending on how much time I feel like putting into them.

Government work is something else for sure. I served a 10 year sentence working for the county so I have a URS tier 1 pension. I plan to make it back at some point just to bolster it a bit since it’s based on your 3 years of highest pay.

I could never go back to being an employee after owning my own life for so long. Keep your eyes open for a good job that meets your criteria, but if you have the skill of hustling up your own business that’s pretty rare and valuable. Maybe consider other businesses you could start/run?

I really miss my 4-10s gov job for the schedule, everything else I'm glad to be rid of.

Rocky Mountain Power has some fairly low stress, good paying positions. I think our warehouse workers (logistics specialists) can be making upwards of 70-80k starting out. Best/worst part of starting out is any of the union covered positions, once you're in, almost every position gets bid internally before going to the street.

Union members/employees, regardless of experience, get priority hiring preference. I've know several people to bounce around between apprenticeships, warehousing, and office jobs, without taking a pay cut, until they find what they like.

I’ve thought this also. Until just a few months ago, I was all on board for buying a turn key business for a new adventure. I really like the dirty soda idea.
I’m just starting to wonder if less pay and less stress is more enjoyable than more pay and more stress.

But I do love money. 🤔

If you can get a franchise business (like a dirty soda) that’s the best of both worlds. Much less of the stress and risk of a typical startup.

So much of it depends on your personality. I am a terrible employee. I don’t like repetition, I need a regular change of scene for my mental health. So running my own thing is perfect for me. I can also manage stress well, and love the challenge of building things. My 14 year old son is wired very differently - he hates change, and finds comfort in routine. I will not be encouraging him to pursue entrepreneurship.

Just for another point of view, I love my big corporate job after owning my own business for a few years. I really love being able to set the job aside and not worry after hours or when I'm on vacation. To be fair, I'm pretty senior and my managers and company sought me out and hired me to do a specific job and they basically allow me a ton of latitude on work hours, whether I manage other people, etc. I get it may be just a mindset, but there is a lot of peace of mind knowing I could walk away tomorrow and not have something I would have to sell or mess with besides my stock!

I think this is a great route for you Brian. You are competent and can/will do well at anything you try. I am certain you could start in a warehouse or some other "baby blue" collar job, and work your way up quickly. This would give you the stability that you are looking for and also allow you to run your rentals and still do some appraisals on the side (nights/weekends) for extra money.

My Dad started a business and routinely worked well into the night balancing the books, managing payroll, etc. He spent so much time working his business, our family life suffered.

That was enough for me to decide that punching a clock for a big company was perfectly fine!

Don't be afraid to look at going back school as well if it will help you get what you need. A couple hard years balancing work and education, but you still have 25-35 years of work ahead of you so investing in your skill set can be a good investment.
