For the last year I've carried this Benchmade Osborne.

Prior to that I carried a boker mini kalashnickov which is a fantastic knife for the money, I also have a few Kershaw leaks and a few gerbers that get thrown into rotation. This Benchmade is my favorite though.

I've been carrying an Emerson A-100 and a Back Country Scalpel.

I've got nice stones I use to sharpen chisels and hand planes and other woodworking stuff but I keep getting nervous about trying to sharpen my knives on them. I don't want to ruin them. I was on /r/knives in their weekly sharpening thread a few months back asking about jigs or something to help myself out and they basically called me out for being and sissy and not just figuring it out freehand. I specifically asked about the lansky system and they told me essentially my shapton stones were like a ferrari and going to lansky would be like driving a pinto. I still haven't tried to sharpen them since that good pep talk. lol.

My dad has a ceramic brick from a blast furnace at Geneva Steel that is the best sharpening stone I've ever used. I thought about jumping the fence when they were tearing that place down to recycle one.

Having used a Lansky quite a bit, I'm now curious about these belt sanders:D
I've actually put a decent edge back on a knife with the bottom ring on a coffee mug while camping.

I've been running a Kershaw Kuro the past few years. For being a relatively lightweight and inexpensive knife, it has been extremely durable. Flip action is quick, feels good in the hand and pocket.

$20 or so on Amazon. I have and have had more expensive knives, but for the day to day, this one had been hard to beat.

There’s a TON of bricks out on the old Geneva property still.

One upon a time I bought a bunch of D2 tool steel from McMaster Carr and made a few knives. I never figured out a good way to reliably heat treat them, so they ended up be being ornamental knives. It sure was fun to make them though. I had a blast filing and grinding those things out. I still have a pile of stainless steel heat treating bags laying around my garage...

I picked up a Summit Half Dome Titanium a few weeks ago. Really like it despite a few flaws. It needed fully disassembled, cleaned and oiled and a bit of polishing on the lock face and the thumb hole. Once that was done, it has become one of my favorites.

Sheffield supply is going out of business and they're blowing out their 440C. I ordered 20 sticks of 1''x1/8''x36'' last week. I hope to have some time next week and grind out a knife or two. I've been busy building fences, re plumbing the garden water system, yard sprinkler system, grass seed and general yard work lately but hopefully I can set aside a couple hours and knock out some knives.

I'll post up some pics if I get time to grind.

But last year, I wanted something to sharpen kitchen knives. The Lansky can do them, but it's a PITA. So I got a little minature belt sander meant for knife sharpening. A Worksharp Ken Onion edition. This one:

I recently picked up a benchmade bugout. I've never really carried a knife, so this was more an experiment to see if I found it useful. Apparently I have because it's time to sharpen... I was planning to pickup this Worksharp, but the bugout came with a warning label to not sharpen with a belt sander. Should I disregard their warning and go for it?

Ignore it.
Or send it to Benchmade and they'll sharpen it for free.
