To all those who feel that our country is in distress.

I have had to bite my tounge for a while and I can no longer hold my thoughts in. Some of you may be aware, and some may not, I am fortunate enough to work for the greatest Nation in the World! I also am very honored to serve with this Nations finest folks. I will not let their sacarifces go un-noticed. Others like myself are priveledged to protect Democracy with out the possibility of practicing it. I understand that there are folks here on this board that feel as though this country is headed for some problems. I also understand that the new President may not be the one who you voted for, I did not vote for him either. However, it is disrespectful to tread on the memories and the sacarfices that others have paid for with their own by displaying the flag upsidedown. There are folks have paid the ultimate price for others to do and say what they will, freedom of speech. But, to tread on their sacarifices by showing that our Nation is in distress is not appropriate. Our Nation is headed for some hard times, no doubt. But tough times make tough people. If you can't handle it then you need to cowboy up and grow some hair on your back side. This is the greatest Nation in the World!! Bar none. And for all folks who feel like they have been betrayed by their own government then I would say that you really need to take a good hard look at our own Pledge of Allegiance. This is the finest Nation, created under one God, no matter what you may call Him, a Nation that will remain Indivisible, provided that all will come together reguardless of personal beliefs. A Nation that provides all citizens the same Liberties of equality, and the Justice for all.

So, do what you will with your freedoms. I will stand side by side with my brothers and my sisters to protect this nation and its freedoms. Your are, of corse, free to do what you will just don't tread on our fallen comrades.

Thank you for your service

This is the greatest country on earth and I want it to stay that way. But I do feel this nation is in distress not just because of the pick of the president but because of the evident lack of moral’s and individual responsibility.

I don’t think anyone should sit back and bite there tongue for any reason (this is America damnit)

I don’t think the hanging of the flag upside is meant to disrespect our military

Section 8a. "The flag should never be displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property

I am definitely not trying to disrespect the military. And as Bronco said, its not about the President at all.

This country is morphing into a socialist entitlement state, that is NOT what our armed forces fight and die for, it is NOT what we stand for, and its definitely NOT what I want it to become.

I apologize if it offends anyone, but I am more than happy to debate the issue. I mean no disrespect. There is more than one way to skin a cat. :D

Hear! Hear! I proudly display the colors as they should be even though our country is in distress, think of it as the squat to the big rise!

I guess that we are treading on a thin line between what is disrespectful or not. The American Flag is a banner (a symbol if you will) for which all who have served fought to protect what it stands for. Freedom, Liberty, Justice, and Democracy (just to name a few). I just noticed that sometimes we become complacment (sp) and forget these things. I would be wrong to tell anyone what to do with their freedoms. I just felt the need to speak my piece. It would appear that Socialism is what is being considered in Washington. It would also go against what our Nation has fought to protect for so long. True. I had a talk with Spureitt the other day. I don't remember all that he said but one thing that did stick out in my mind is that it looks like we are heading down a path that we have cautioned others about. I still don't think that we are in distress. Becasue of that, I can not stand by and watch others display our banner in such a fashion with out speaking my piece. By doing this, I do not trample on their freedoms and I still am able to practice my freedoms.

You and I are in agreement then. I'm glad we're all having the conversation, actually. You make my point precisely-- people DO forget.

When we are "real" distress, I don't think we'll be able to do things like disagree about the symbols used to point out the problem.

I would have to say that you and I are on opposite sides of the same line, treading very very close to it. :D I love this country and hope like hell that people start taking more pride in our freedoms, and their uniqueness in the world.

Entitlement mentality has taken root in America and that's the real issue-- the idea that "the government" is going to fix everything for you, and provide for you for the smallest reasons. Welfare was never meant for that!!! Where is the pride of ownership, of doing a good job, of doing what's right??? Political correctness isn't freedom, it's slavery to the other side, not a dialogue.

Socialism is taking root, with the blessings of the People. :shaking:

All the more reason to call attention to our current distress. Yes, we're in distress. It has nothing to do with Obama, it's been going on for a while.

Professional politicians putting power over duty.

Practically open borders.

Uncontrolled welfare.

Rewarding the lazy while punishing the successful.

Uncontrolled gov't spending.

The list goes on and on as we all know.

I see that calling attention to our distress is a way to be patriotic and honor the sacrifice of those who have fought and died to protect the freedoms in this country. It would be a great disservice to sit back and accept what has been happening. If a few downturned flags is what it takes to start discussions that open some eyes, then the end justifies those means.

Go forth Tacoma. Even if someone thinks you're unpatriotic. I don't.

Piss and vinegar!

Thank you!!! Like I said, it's not about Obama. The welfare problem has NOT been solved, at all, in any way. I agree about No Child Left Behind, but then, I homeschool my kids. :D

Obama isn't stimulating anything, btw. As you said, he's not in office yet. :cody: :D

EDIT: I also agree about terrorism. ;)

LT, I will agree on some of your points And disagree on others. I believe it to be long past time to show the flag in distress. We do indeed seem to be on the fast march to Socialism. I spent 20 years in the Navy, doing my small part to keep that evil at bay. If we continue this nosedive, we won't be able to question policy or symbols or even our elected leaders. Its not just the man elected, regardless of his skin color, it is his own words, his associations and what he wants to do that scare. What has been truly amazing has been the introspection on the part of the media this week, some aware they don't know enough about the man they selected. Others, believing it to be their job to ensure his success...

I know some have mentioned (not here I think) heading for Canada, they don't want any of us, and I can't imagine leaving this country even if it going to hell in a handbasket on a Fedex Express truck. While I am pessimistic for many reasons, I do also look forward to 2010, when maybe we can get some numbers changed in the Congress. I have not been at all happy with the last 4 years, for many reasons.

Sorry LT, but I still believe this nation is in distress and dire duress. And at least for a time we'll be able to continue discussing it.

It would appear that we are all looking forward to 2010. But, I don't think that we are too far off from what happened almost 16 years ago. When Clinton took office. If I remember correctly the Democrats had the Presidency, House and the Senate. Two years later the House and the Senate both went to the Republicans. I found this and thought that I should share it. "The flag should never be displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property." If we go off of this then it would be inapproipate to display our Nations Banner in such a way. I will stand by what I have said. However, I am glad to have as many responses as we have had here today. Everybody has ideas, and they are all worth listening too. ---- Phatfoto, Sir, I admire you because of your extended duty to your country, you have gone above and beyond what most folks have done. You are to be commended and honored for your time served. I guess that we will have to agreee to disagree, Sir.

Lt,

I to have devoted 24 yr of my life to the Army and I see your points and like everyone else, I to see the country in dire distress.... and if you can't see how people are losing their property and some taking their own lifes due to life going down hill fast... this is exactly what you highlited in red in your last statement.

So to me I do see the need to do exactly what Tacoma has done.

I am a job forman for my work and we can't even get people to come to work on time or call when they decide to take a day off... I have to constantly check up on them and push them to work harder... no one has pride in their work these days... and corporations could care less about the work that is being done for them as long as it doesn't cost them too much. I have put bids in on projects and had them go to someone else that was using lesser quality parts and taking short cuts that only cause troubles later down the road. So now when I am out listening to what they want I ask are they looking for a quality job or to save money and I do my bids off the answer to that question.

Yes things are going downhill fast and when I hear a President that thinks our National Anthem is too offensive and wants to change it it makes me want to Puke!
