Shannon is nether smooth or slow. He drives balls out, even over the top of competitors. He won.
I hereby cerify this statement for accuracy
Shannon is nether smooth or slow. He drives balls out, even over the top of competitors. He won.

.unless someone makes him then he will drive the wheels off it and thats when the fun starts.
Right, but the past two years he didn't finish and he has more money backing him than any other competitor, not to mention the most expensive parts.., he got lucky that nothing broke. Driving like a bull in a china shop is fun but it is not what wins races I second jasons statement, "slow is smooth, smooth is fast".
FWIW, as far as 'slow is smooth and smooth is fast', some of you seem to be getting hung up on the 'slow' part of that saying; focus on the 'smooth is fast'. Be smooth, move fast; as in, getting to the finish line as soon as you can. With that, the focus is the finish line - not an average top speed. You are both fighting with, and working with time. Anything other than a forward progression, and time will be working against you. You cannot make forward progression without a lot of luck, but also smarts on how to run your vehicle in such a manner that it does not fall apart. Anyone can get taken out of a race, and that's why desert racing and now KOH is so awesome. It really is anyone's title for the taking.
.. I should add that I am by no means an expert on this, just picked up a few things from the desert races that Rob and I have done. Our first race out, most of the BOR guys actually had bets running that we didn't come back in one piece; that they'd have to come scrape us off the course after night fall. I can't even tell you how awesome the slaps on the back, the 'great job guys', and the hand shakes were after we crossed the finish line under a single dangling headlight. Finishing is the #1 goal, finishing first would be an added bonus for most.
