How do you lawn whispers deal with mushrooms? There's a section of my back yard that I think used to have a tree years ago, so I'm assuming there's decaying roots under the lawn which I understand often times leads to mushrooms.

I've always understood mushrooms to come from soggy lawn, so water that spot less.

I just mow them up. I had some really big ones grow at my last house due to the bigger chunks of wood from the landfill compost I used to top dress the seed. I don't necessarily see them as being a problem. Is there something about them that concerns you?

No, just think they're ugly.

Mow your lawn more then. Twice a week should do it.

The grass seed is slowly starting to thicken. The slope of my front yard is a bit challenging when seeding. The seeds float down river until they take hold. I raked in a little more seed into the sparse areas.

That would be cool. I have a good friend who has a foundry…….so it would not be out of the realm of possibility.

First mow of front lawn 2.0. The thin spots are starting to fill in nicely. Should be able to Weed and Feed in a few more weeks.

That's 16 degrees different in America Speak. (93f to 77f).

Anyone have ability to run a similar test to verify?

Progress on our yard redo.
Finally a rain free day so they poured the sports court.
And started to tear out the existing landscaping (not me doing the labor.)
When all is done lawn will be decreased by about 60%, with a fescue blend for the remaining that should use about 25% less water.
Irony is that we haven't turned our sprinklers on in two years and the grass looks the best it has in years (or did this morning. )

Our problem is pocket gophers and they are relentless... Weeds, too, but I don't like to poison either since we are on a well.

Maybe I'm late to this but I just learned the people are using diesel exhaust fluid as lawn fertilizer.

def is basically just urea right? I'm not sure why you would use def instead though because urea is super cheap. The pellets dissolve in water super easy as well. Maybe someone should try and make their own def from the urea pellets.

A couple of months ago I had replaced about 200 square feet of lawn in the back yard just off the shop apron about 15' due to grubs killing it off late last summer. I removed the dead area and replaced with sod.

It has blended in well now. Last week after returning from our annual Ouray trip it was exactly a year since we discovered the grubs and killed them.

Here is what it looked like when we arrived home after being gone for a week. Our lawn has become so thick and lush that it is needing to be mowed twice a week to keep it looking nice. My son came over mid-week last week and gave it a mowing and although it was long when we arrived home, it looked nice and healthy.

The next morning after giving it a mow. The area has blended in well and is barely noticeable.

Even the side yard is looking good this year where we fought to keep it green last year with the water restrictions.


The front yard is doing well this year also.



We've now been in the house 6+ years and I am finally pleased with how everything is looking.

Ran around the lawns last night with the mowers just before the storm hit. Got a few drops of rain on me before I completed but thought I'd snap a few pictures from different angles. The wind was terrible yesterday but I am pretty pleased with how our yard looks this year and finally feel like it is in at least as good a shape as the last home's yard. It's only taken me six years to get it to where I'm pleased with it.


Don't beat up on me too bad, I didn't trim or edge and just hurried around the yard with the looming clouds and storm coming in.
