LT's Wild RamCharger

LT is new to the board, He just joined up. He is from my hometown of Los Alamos NM and we both wheel up here in Utah alot. He is a wild guy. He has been into wheeling along time. He has owned several built to the hilt CHevys, and a few Dodges. Right now he has a 87 Dodge Ramcharger which he calls his beater. The motor is a 360 bored over 0.3. He got real happy with the Sawsall and cut tons of the body off, including the roof, and front and fenders. He has a roll cage that is under fab right now. He now has a dana 60 going in for the front and a Corp 14 for the rear. He has Hydr. steering and a bunch of other stuff. He has new tires, 42 Irocs and beadlock rims.

I let him tell you about it. Here are his pictures:

Who cares what Tiff thinks? I have wheeled with y'all a few times and was always the one who was the weak link. You and your 47's and duces, Corey now with nearly the same set up and Sprueitt with THREE duces and his ultra traction enabled, plutonium green rig. What else was I to do?

LT.

It is nice to know that I am the root of it all!!! :D I take pride in that!!
As far as what are you to do??? Well, one option was to just wait for me to get my truck back out there again with everybody... because with my half ton axles and the 42s I guarantee I am the weak link! Sure I may have the long travel suspension and I have been lucky in that I have made those axles survive for 6 years with 42s.... but it is only because I had to be a wimp and stay off of the skinny pedal for fear of snapping things like toothpicks!
So needless to say, if I am able to keep my RamCrawler(just waiting for the Judge's final ruling now:ugh:).... I will be the next one to have a monster build up here! Can we say that I will be joining the Rockwell club???:greg:
I guess that would mean that in a roundabout way..... it is YOUR fault that I would be getting rocks!! Because then I would definitely be the weak link.... If our group was a chain with your vehicles being 3/8" chain-link, my truck would be the little clasp that holds my daughter's necklace closed, and that would be trying to hold the T-Rex on one end while it is pulling the Scout out of Kane Creek Canyon when it runs out of gas!!!:rofl:
OOOOOH wait.... that was the T-Rex pulling my RamCrawler out of Kane Creek Canyon when I ran out of gas right in the middle of my Fourwheeler Magazine Photoshoot!!! Ahhh memories!!!
But still with my truck in our group..... that chain will break most catastrophically!!!! So now it is all your fault for me to be next to build!!!
Thanks ROB!!!

Keep up the good work and keep the pics coming brother!!! I can't wait to see this thing tearing up the trails!!!!! Then when the trails devirginize the beater for the first time..... are you going to drop it off at my house so I can do some body work on it and give you the dovetail in the rear and also dove the front combined with sloping the hood and grill downward???? Then you will have one SICK rig that will be ready to take on any and all trail you can find!!
Give me a call on your next day off if you have some time brother!!!

Traitor!! Do you really want those miserable, leaky, heavy, worthless, axles? They break just like any other axle out there. Cheston broke one with his new 47's. I really can't wait until I kill the body on the Beater. I am looking at different bodies now. In fact, that may be the goal this EJS. To tear most of the body off of the truck frame.

Maybe. But, that still doesn't change anything else about them. If they quit leaking then they are bone dry and you need to add fluid to them. They are still heavy, lacking diff gear choices, difficult to get street worthy, and sloppy. I have seen some parts that were available from your local Napa or Autozone but what about say, axle shafts? We have all seen them snapped, where do you go to get a replacement one? I don't think Napa or anyother chain store is going to be able to get you one. They are good axles if you are running monster horsepower or way huge of a tire. Not for me though. How many trail trucks or buggies, or even rock purpose built rigs really need them?

For a minute there I thought you were talkin about a Cummins:)

LOL. No way. I don't have any leaky Cummins.

Yeah, I know. Everyone was talking them up so I thought I should give them a try. So far they are great. They hold up the weight of the truck as I push it from one side of the shop to the other. I can't speak about them in the rocks yet.

I hope to meet up with you at either EJS or BB10 this year LT!

I am hoping to be at both. I will be staying at the Pack Creek Campground for EJS and hope to stay there again for BB. I hope to see you there. Send me a PM with your phone number and I will give you a call. I hope we can at least run a trail together.

Nothing too major but, at least it is an update. The front axle has been welded to fill in the gap where I had to cut it to remove the old inner C's. I also was able to get the new inner C's in place. If anyone is considering rotating the front pumpkin up any amount let me know. I now think that I know everything not to do and a few things to do different if I had to. It really was not too bad after I figured out what to do. They just slid on perfect after doing everything wrong the first time around.

I hope so. Finding the time to work on it is starting to become a problem. Last week I worked about 80 hours and that was in five days. The week before I worked over 90 hours. The problem is when I have the time I don't have the money. When I have the money I don't have the time. We will be at EJS (I think) the only question is will the Beater be there. I just bought a CB radio from Greg and I hope to also have in installed so I can at least listen to the chatter on the radio. I really do think that the pinion angle was the only thing holding the front end up from being completed. Cross your fingers.

I am not too sure. I think that I am the only one that takes a whole year to do a front and rear four link with dual T-cases. I can't even begin to tell y'all how frustrating it is that things are not going well.

LT.

You'd be surprised how long it takes some people. Just do what you can when you can. Even if you only have 15 min. or something. Use it.

Here are a few photos of the last couple of days. Not much but, something. The first photo shows how far I moved the front axle forward. Next is my shinny new Reid Racing inner C's and knuckles. Then just a few shots of what the front links look like and how much wider the whole rig is now.
