RMP “Trail” Ride closing update

What a night!!!!

We had 94 people in 82 rigs show for the event (had some join as we went along :). And the ride went smoothly. We got broke up several times but I think that just added to the magnitude of our line.

We made a big impression on BLM and those hosting the event (SWCA). Deb R (SWCA) the person in charge of the meeting was surprised that we came in such large numbers and said she was very impressed. She also mention “And you are all dressed so nicely”. Channel 13 showed up for media coverage as well.

Thank you to everyone who attended and helped out with this gigantic undertaking. Our show of support for public land use could not be ignored tonight!!

A very special thank you to those who helped make this event possible behind the scenes

Jeff R For brain childing this idea to begin with

Bryon S for providing “Crawlers” as our meeting location, working with SSL to arrange our police escort on to State Street and the orange vests.

Steve Jackson and U4WDA for providing the window paint and putting the fact sheet together.

Michelle H for providing the Free Expression permit paper work for me to fill out. I would have been searching for days for the application

Scott H for being my sounding board and letting me bounce all kinds of idea’s off him. He did a great job keeping this grounded in reality. Also for making some calls to various media outlets.

Debbie, Paige, Quinn, Ron, Brian, Scott, Bryon for helping out with traffic control and information gathering at “Crawlers”.

Everyone who helped spread the word

I would also like to thank Elizabeth at the SLC Main public library for being so willing to accommodate our group. She put in some legwork to make sure we could ALL attend.

NOW!!! Post up those pics if you got em!!!!

This shall conclude my obnoxiously long posts……for now :p

Thanks to everyone who attended, and special thanks to those who were involved in the organizing of the event. It was great!!

We did have a little blurb on Fox 13, and yeah it was my ugly mug being interviewed (and my awesome Scout in the background!).

Way to go everyone!

AWESOME! I saw the line up from 1700 south to about 33rd after picking up my son from day care.
I hope they got the idea that we like Moab and would like to keep it open.

There were some anti-OHV people there. I actually had a very good conversation with a SUWA volunteer. We were in agreement on a lot, and he was very receptive to my concerns about some road closures in the wilderness study areas. I would say the ratio of 4x4'ers to SUWA-ites was 8:1 at least.

Makes you wonder if some of these people even know what the SUWA is trying to do. I bet alot of people who donate to the SUWA and/or Sierra club think that its just a good cause and don't really know what their money is being used for. I'm sure alot of them drive the very roads that the SUWA is trying to shut down.

I hope the BLM got the correct message and realize that the majority of people do not want our public land taken away. I Hate it when the vocal minority has a bigger voice at these type of meetings and misrepresents what most people in Utah believe. This time it sounds like the actual majority was accurately represented.

Thank you very much to all who attended and organized this. You voiced mine and the majority of other Utahns opinions well!

that was alot of rigs...

inbetween the inevitable death wobble we were dealing with in the yota, there was a Jeep on a tow strap... atleast it was a Jeep right?... actually, for a second it felt very similar to the average EJS trip.. ya know, being in a line of rigs, feeling like your not moving cause there's too many damn Jeeps, death wobble on the yota, even a jeep on a strap before you really went anywhere... picture perfect... not to mention the cop let us off reeeeeally easy just before we got to Crawlers :) get to keep the 4runner yet another night...

Good job guys!!! I wish I wasn't ~1600 miles away or I would have been there :(

I wonder the same thing often.... SUWA does a good job at wording things right to help them - very sneaky!! So I bet most of their members really don't know what is goign on and think they are doing the right thing. But in reality I think the right thing is to leave everything open and police it more with education, signage, etc. ANyway, wrong forum for this really....

I would be in that first picture, but I am around the corner and down a block and a half (because the line was so long.):D

Great pictures. And thank you to all those that put this together. I haven't washed my windows yet and people keep asking me why Moab needs saving. I think I need to get some vinyl stickers made, it is a great way to spread the word!

Great job to everyone who participated and helped set this up. What a great event. Its awsome that we out numbered the SUWA people by so many. Wish I could have made it.
