got her out and hosed her off. I definitely need to add a few leafs to the front springs, rebleed the brakes, fix the bumper that I got off ksl to fit, and figure out a small gas leak. (pics to come)

so, when the engine has been running for a minute, it starts to leak gas out the little dilly-o circled in red. one pic is from the top and one from the bottom. after I turn off the engine, It continues to leak for a few minutes. a fairly steady drip. any idea what this part is?

I knew that the bumper was off a truck because of the licence plate spot, but when I went to put it on the 'runner (I had to cut a couple things down first to make it fit) I realized that since trucks have about 6" of body below where the bottom of the tailgate is, the bumper that is made to sit against that 6" of body won't work on my 'runner, whose tailgate has no body under it. The bottom of the tailgate is the bottom of the body on the 'runners, so if I mount the bumper under the 'runner tailgate, leaving room for the tailgate to still open, it's just hanging down there as a rock anchor, and the side protectors are hanging down below the sides that need the protecting. SO, I guess it's for sale. It's about 3" wider on each side than the 'runner so I'm thinking it's for a tacoma, which (I believe) is a bit wider than the older pickups. ANYBODY WANT A BUMPER??

ANYBODY HAVE A 'RUNNER BUMPER FOR SALE? EITHER STOCK OR CUSTOM!!

Sweet runner you have done some respectable work on it! I would possibly be interested in the bumper if I wasn't in the middle of building mine already.

Thanks! It's taken me waaaay too long, but I'm pretty happy with the end result so far. There's still more to do though (is a rig ever finished?) so hopefully progress can continue. I'm trying to have it "finished" by the time our first baby is born in ......gulp......3 weeks!

yikes! good luck on your deadline. Mine should be "finished" or atleast moving back on the roads and trails next week or so.

looking good. I love these....

its the fuel pulsation dampener, absorbs the pulsations from the injectors and takes out the spikes that are created in the fuel rail smoothing it out and giving it a more even flow rate. the crush rings that seal it to the rail are most likely leaking. but it could have a torn diaphragm.

rockauto

on my 93 3vz the banjo washers leaked. if you don't have to replace it take off the plastic cover and put the screw back in or tighten it, they back out and make it not fully effective.

ya, I searched around on pirate and figured out that it was the damper. I took off the plastic and the screw was sitting in the bottom of the cap, so I put it back on and started her up and it was leaking from around the screw, so I took off the damper, cleaned the grime from where the rubber washer on the screw sits, tightened the screw, put it back on, started her up, and no leak.....until I gave it some gas and put some more pressure into the system. It started to leak a little. So I'll probably take it off again and try to clean some more grime off, and see what happens.

I put two more leafs in each pack in the front, and it rides a lot better now. I also put in a new fuel dampener. Now I need to do shock mounts and a rear bumper, and she'll be ready to go. One thing that is stumping me though is the brakes. They worked great before the swap, but now that it's all back together, they are really soft. I've bled them a few times, but they go all the way to the floor unless you pump them fast, but as soon as you let the pedal all the way out, it will go back to the floor. they'll stop me when I"m going slow, but only after the pedal is already to the floor and I'm really pushin. Any ideas?? I don't know why the master cylinder would be bad if it worked great before the swap. I put on FJ vented rotors and v6 calipers.

well it's been forever since any update. We had our first baby! A little girl! She's so much fun, but doesn't leave me a lot of time to wrench! A little has gotten done but not much! I figured out the brakes. I had been bleeding the rear at the prop. valve, and brainfarted the bleeders at each drum completely out of my head until I was under there checking the adjustment on the rear brakes and the bleeder jumped out and bit me in the nose....I guess that makes me a noob.

I also did shock hoops in the front. Just finished getting the passenger side on tonight.

here's what's left to do:

to register it and drive it:
*shock hoop in the rear
*figure out some front turn signals since I took off the stock front bumper w/ the lights in them
*box in rear frame and run some 2X3 down under the tailgate so I can attach a bumper
*build a rear bumper and attach to extended frame
*eliminate rear buggy leaf set-up by clamping it to the frame then welding the buggy leaf solid to the frame. (Is it ok to weld the buggy leaf to the frame??)

and here's what's needed to be somewhat satisfied w/ a "finished" product:
*shave down foam in rear fender-well where I cut it out, and bondo it solid
*beef-up and install some sliders that I have from a donor truck
*install some fender hoops at least in the rear
*make or have a front driveline made
*rock lights

and down the road:
*winch in front
*beefier t case crossmember
*some sort of roof rack
*solar set-up w/ some panels that I have -removable, and connected to a house battery to run camp lights, etc when camping
*selectable locker in front diff
*some nice HID's up front

I've been keeping up on Steve's build, and it's inspiring! Hopefully I can have this streetable soon!

well, I extended the rear frame and welded the buggy leaf solid to the frame, adding a small chunk of 2X3 between the leaf and the frame, giving it about an inch of lift that I didn't really want, but oh-well. Now i need to mount a hunk of 1 1/2 square tube between the extended frame rails and then from that tube, down and out to the rear bumper that I need to build.

Below is a quick sketch of the rear bumper that I'll build in the morning using 3X5 for the bumper, and angle iron for the side extensions, and tying it all in so that the angle of the angle iron flows down to the rear bumper. Hopefully it turns out like I'm picturing it in my head! Any suggestions??

If anybody wants to come over and help me out with your fabbing skills, I'd really appreciate it! (I'll start working -Sat. around 8:30am!!) just give me a call. I'm in downtown Lehi.

well, I didn't get near as much done today as I thought I would (surprise, surprise!) but I DID do:

-finished frame extensions
-tacked on crossmember that the bumper will mount to
-tacked on rear 3X5 for temp bumper -just to pass safety (this turned out to take WAY longer than it should have!)
-tightened a ton of stuff all over the rig that I've loosened for some reason or other in the last year or so
-did a solid job of mounting some temp mud flaps for safety
-checked fluids
-mounted stock wheels and tires for safety inspection
-finished lower shock mount bracket on driver side
-mounted front shocks
-hooked up and temp mounted (zip tied) the turn signals to the front bumper

-took for test drive, and it feels really tight! those shocks on the front, and eliminating the wierd suspension flexiness by welding solid the buggy leaf made a world of difference!

I'll post some pics of how she sits tomorrow!

I figured I'd try and do a couple things tonight, but it all ended in frustration. I wanted some more solid welds on the bumper cross member, but I couldn't get my dang welder to penetrate. After I fought with it and gave up, I realized that my ground clamp wasn't connecting very well. I then went to try and get the front driveline on , but I don't have a socket big enough for the t case flange nut. Do any of you know the right size socket for this?? So once that plan was shot, I decided to just yank the dang rear bumper so I can work on it on my bench instead of while it's mounted. So, hopefully tomorrow I can get those two things done.

here are some pics of it when I had it out yesterday.

Thanks Rob, you were right! Unfortunately, the flange on the auto t case has a seal around the end of it that holds in a bunch of ATF, which I found out when I took it out to swap it, and got covered in ATF. :-\ So, that flange will have to stay, and I'll have a DS built off the stock CV.

So, i got it registered today, SWEEEEET!

I finidhed up a few things the last couple days, and have driven her all over today, and everything feels great!

-re-did rear bumper and changed the design a bit
-had my buddy strengthen a bunch of welds that my little 110v Lincoln left kinda ugly
-mounted rear shock crossmember and some temporary shocks.
-oil change, topped off fluids
-just put the 35's back on. SHOULD I GO 37'S????

so, now comes the armor and little goodies to personalize it a bit!

well, took the runner to Yuba lake this weekend and it did great! cruises on the freeway stuffed full of gear w/ myself, my wife, and baby, 60-65, no problem, which I was surprised about because I have the "gutless" auto tranny. and when I filled the tank before we left, I calculated that I got exactly 19mpg on the first tank! I'm super excited about that! It drives really smooth, too! No bump steer or death wobble! I do need some stiffer shocks in the rear (the ones I have on there were just to pass safety) but other than that, no complaints! I'll post a trip report w/ more pics!
