That is exactly what I have been trying to say for the last page. James asked if we could move the crossmember, and a assumed he wanted to because it would be in the way of the uppers.
Going back to the first page to see said conflict...

Actually the second. I don't think it was really a conflict, we just weren't all on the same page.

So Greg, how do you feel about modifying that xmember?

That's right. Let's be honest. this thread is really only here so Herzog can photochop some beetchen bracketry/trussage on a pic of the rear axle. between the three of us, we can knock out a 4 link in minutes, so the rest of the time we use to showcase some sick fabwork. We just need someone with animagination to draw it up, cuz I can't imagine crap. :hickey:

There is room for movement, but the crossmember looks to be at least 8" behind the t-case yoke. do you want the uppers to mount that far behind the lowers?

Yes.

I see no reason the X-member has to be removed. With it in place, I'll have around 32-34" upper links, which is about right in my book. So the pinion will drop... it ain't a Baja truck that will be getting aired out, it's a rockcrawler. The diff is going to stay mainly centered while the axle is twisting up. If I were jumping it, than it might be best to go with a diffrent design.

Does that make sense or am I up in the night?

Lower links will be around 40" long, mabey a bit more.

Keep in mind that there is another thing that affects whether the pinion will drop when the suspension does, or not....the amount of horizontal convergence of the links. Even if the uppers are shorter than the lowers, if they converge toward the front they'll tend to keep the pinion pointed toward the Tcase. Just like everything else, it's a balance/trade-off kinda deal.

That said, you're right in putting the other considerations first--but when you say it won't be getting aired out....I'm guessing you're wrong. :)

and mine are 46.25 top and bottom :D
And I would guess that I had the shortest D-shaft out of all of us, due to my longer Auto trans., but Greg's d-shaft is probably pretty close to James and Shawns length.

38 and a 1/8 :D

the pinion stays pointed at the t-case through the travel of the axle
