"NEW"- 99 7.3L long bed crew cab manual - mbryson support vehicle

I just read recently that Macs are just rebranded (and marked up like crazy) "Cargo Equipment" straps that are made and shipped out of Illinois.

Edit - I'll be damned, their online stores even look the same / use the same system
I saw that on FB too and there were comments in there from multiple people saying they love this (below) brand and consider it comparable to Mac's... and a good bit cheaper. I've loved my Mac's straps and so has Ryan. We've put a lot of "miles" on them and I could never go back to a strap without a snap hook. It's just one of those things. That's really my 2 cents as I don't have input about e-track and whatnot. Oh and Vulcan has a huge variety of tire straps/nets and different strap ends etc.

For the E track, TJ Trailers on Pennsylvania Ave in Ogden is amazing They carry a few lengths and finishes at really reasonable prices. They also have a good sized variety of different cleats, rings and hooks. The staff is great to work with and very friendly, it's a family run and parts business that just feels good when you go in the store. I use them regularly for trailer and utility bed stuff at work.

I'd LOVE to work with someone local like that. Handy to be able to drive up there and have access to inventory.

Did I miss somewhere that you acquired a gooseneck trailer?

For E-track, I would run it just inboard of your average inside track width and use straps or chains to the axles. I haven’t had much luck strapping over the tires of crawlers. I’m never happy with how much movement I end up with.

I will be acquiring a gooseneck soon. Next weekendish.

I don't love the tire loops for my Buick when laterally secured (90* to the car). I'm fine with them when I'm having them pull at a 45* angle.

I thought this kind of thing would be the 🐈 ass?1734659016943.jpeg

Here you've got an ancient glow plug relay. View attachment 177781

Used a test light and nothing crossing with the key on. That's a good thing.
It means I've got a solid chance the relay might make a big difference. I don't think I've even tried to start the truck since Oct 19 when I got back from Moab.

Fancy fresh and new Dorman. (Not my favorite brand) I gave it a cycle and verify test light on the 2nd lug. Hit the starter and grumpy 7.3L lights off.

New relay. HUUUUGGGGEEEE difference.

(That's my presidential version)

...and the Dorman is dead already. Looking for a mo' betta solution.

F7TZ12B533CA is OEM part #
On it's way for tomorrow from Performance Ford Truckland parts

Edit: Grabbed an Echlin part and put it in. Starts right up with 2 glow plug cycles. I'll get the Motorcraft as a spare

Put the gooseneck hitch to work yesterday. Truck handled the trailer very well. Handling, stops, starts. This 36' trailer is quite a bit larger than my previous 28' trailer. Couple that with towing with the battleship long bed and it's likely much like driving a big truck? I'll likely never know about the big truck thing. However, you do have to swing WIDE for turns. Test track on exit 113 on Idaho I15 with two roundies on either side was a good education in turning. I handled it decently and I'll get better. Trailer tracks REALLY straight and is right at 5500lbs

I'll do a trailer thread in the future. This trailer was carefully selected for appropriate weight, ease of modification and length for many uses. (Jeep-Jeep, Buick-Jeep, Buick-Buick, etc). I was able to procure the trailer from a hauler getting out of the business. It was his spare trailer so it had to be kept serviceable but he used wedge type 48 and 53' trailers most often. Have a full set of tie down straps for two vehicles that came with the trailer. Pretty happy with it for what I paid. Sexy, not really but it's fine and I can shave a few lbs off of the trailer for my specific needs. (probably only 300-400 lbs?). CAT scale verified trailer weight is 5560 lbs currently.

Backing the trailer along the side of my house took 3 tries. Battleship F350 and swing of the 36' is a big factor. MUCH different than the 28' goose and the 36' bumper pull towed by Sweaty Betty. Three issues there, gooseneck turning point and the 36' deck, long bed wheelbase and front axle turning radius (leaf spring on current truck, coil on Betty)

I almost took Malad pass in 6th gear but had to bump back to 5th (1:1) for about 1/2 a mile.

Your RTT would look good on that trailer.
A RTT would look pretty sweet on that trailer. I don't have a RTT any longer however. (I'm not a good camper. I'll deal with a ground tent in a pinch or sleeping in the pickup bed with a nice pad I already have if the occasion arises)

Trailer does need a storage box between the "V" of the gooseneck. Spare tire, chains, etc would be good in there

Next project on the F350 is the winch in the bed. I plan to use a multi mount with Anderson Connectors. Winch could be used off the factory tow hitch or off a tow hitch welded to the front part of the gooseneck trailer. Winch will not likely get used a lot but 2-3 times per year?

Storage of the multimount will need to be off the bed floor. Likely just some kind of rack/bracket with a hitch/ pin in it.

Thoughts:
Multi mount, i already have. Winch, I already have.

Should I run an extra battery? Just use the existing two the 7.3L comes with? If running an extra battery, should it be isolated from the trucks charging system?
Extra battery could be added easily under passenger bedside in an E350 battery box or similar. YJ or TJ battery box would probably work just as well.
Mount the battery/winch permanently to the trailer and trickle charge with solar?

As a ghetto cheapskate, I have a winch on a multi mount. I used and Anderson connector at the winch, and jumper style alligator clips on the other with about 25’ of cable. That way it connects to any vehicle ever. It’s a little annoying to pop a hood to hook up the winch, but 2 or 3 times a year is not an issue, and it’s been very beneficial to be able to move it between vehicles. I would do it the same way again if I need another in the future.

I've been going back and forth on this for a while now. This is good to hear.

Did you buy high quality jumper cables and put Anderson fittings on one end or buy wire and put the jumper cable alligator clips on separately?

I bought a set of cables and did the Anderson on one end.

They came from Ebay/Amazon, but are thick and sufficient. I don't remember the actual gauge though.
