P90X

Alright I am going out on a limb here and opening myself up to a whole lot of ridicule.
Pirate has a similar thread but I am not ready to post there.

I've never been much of a gym rat. I need a workout partner to push and motivate. From everything I have read the P90X does just that. I am ready to pull the trigger on the DVDs. They are not cheap but I am one of those people that if I spend money on it I am going to get the full use of it. Its a form of motivation for me. And I figure if I do a thread on it its that much more motivation.

Right now I am about 225 lbs but I'm looking to get back to my Military weight of about 190 lbs. My girlfriend and I took a little hike about a week ago and I have not stopped thinking about getting back in shape since.

Has anyone done the program? Tip? Suggestions?

Thanks
Hunt

I know a couple of people who did the whole p90X thing.. they got good results until they stopped doing it.. like any other exercise routine it is all about consistently doing it and watching what you eat.

I personally can't stand watching a TV and working out.. something about it just hits me as wrong, then again golds gym has the cardio cinema..
honestly if it is something that you think will motivate you and that you will keep doing it then do it... its better than the alternative -- sitting on the couch :)

Nothing to ridicule about getting in shape.

I've downloaded samples of the video and it can get pretty intimidating, but you have you realize that you are working up to their point.

I think there's a few people on here that's gone through it... would be good to hear how it's working for them.

It works really really well, if you commit and stuff. Of course, you get out what you put in.

I was getting into pretty good shape until I got lazy and stopped doing it.

I just sat on the couch and watched the DVD, and look what it did for me!

Seriously, if it motivates you to get into better shape, then it's money well spent.

I agree with Carl 100% P90X will do exactly what you want, but you have to put the effort in. You can make it as easy as you want, or push yourself and let it kick your ass. I've done P90X three times and I've never completed it all the way through. I finally signed back up for the gym and that has been working great, that is until I hurt my foot. :(

My boss has been doing it for the past 2 months. His thinking was though that he didn't have to eat well since he was working out so hard. Unfortunately he is getting fatter.

You might also want to look at Crossfit. I've heard a lot of good things about it and there's a Crossfit gym in the Quarry strip mall place near Walmart (approximately 90th south and 1000 east)

Sorry if you all are getting tired of hearing this but my favorite program is in The Book of Muscle http://www.amazon.com/Mens-Health-Muscle-Authoritative-Building/dp/1579547699

I followed that program and have now moved on to body building. While nobody will mistake me for a bodybuilder I did lose over 40 lbs and put on a lot of muscle in the process. Oh, and I reduced my calories quite a bit and also focus on eating more protein and less carbs and fat. No more soda either

Good luck!

:DIf I start running now I MIGHT make it to the strip mall in 90 days. I will have lost a lot of weight and will not have had to buy the dvds. Excellent idea thanks.

My friend at work does it and claims to be getting ripped. His brother is a cop and also sells the dvd's and food guide or something and swears by it. I guess the P90"FLEX" workouts are pretty intense too:) IMO if ppl are doing anything at all towards getting in shape, its never a bad idea.

If you end up wanting it, check out local classifieds. We bought ours brand new (fitness guide, nutrition guide, and discs) for $60 from a personal trainer, not some shady guy making copies.

My son bought the whole set and it was working for about a month. He went so hard at it that he hurt his back. Never started again after that. I'm sure there are used sets of the program around.

Me, I'm taking the slower route. I've been on my treadmill since Thanksgiving, started out low but up to 1.5 to 2 miles a day. I also do weights every other day. Of course I'm older, but I'm down 20 lbs and still dropping, slow but sure.

I have the dvd's. First time I did the ab workout I was like hell I can do this, 5 minutes later I was laid out flat on my back and couldn't keep up/. It's intense. But just like he says in the video, work at your pace pushing yourself as far as you can. Eventually when you get to their caliber and the videos are over you will have to keep increasing your workout so you are still straining your muscles.
Keep us up to date on your progress, it helps knowing other people are working their ass off to stay in shape. Good luck.:)

Holly crap I didn't realize I started this thread 15 months ago. Wow how time flies.

Well fast forward those 15 months and here is where I stand. I bought the DVDs and started the program. Decided I was WAY to fat at the time (229 lbs) so I started a more modest program and from that date to now I am at 199 lbs. It felt like forever to get back under 200 lbs and that was a HUGE mile stone.

I figured it was good timing to start the program while I am over here in South Korea for 12 weeks (what the heck else am I going to do, right?). I have been on it for about a week now and I feel great. It really does kick you ass but when I pull through it the feeling of accomplishment is tremendous. The guys is very motivating without being over bearing. I like it so far.

My goal is to complete the program and be in great shape by the time I return to the states for the end of summer. I hope my girlfriend enjoys the benefits too. I want to be down to 190 lbs. which was my very fit Navy weight.

I am doing it all naturally. No pills, no shakes, nothing abnormal. I take a multi-vitamin from GNC and thats it. I don't want to get huge and I don't want to blow back up again if I slack off later, so I figure this is the best way. Just healthy and fit.

I am a little reluctant to post pictures of myself but here goes anyway. Hopefully it will help keep me motivated, I'll stick with the program, it will make my time over here go faster, and the RME world will not laugh at me.

The odd ball picture is from my Navy days and is the body I am working to get back too.

 Good call on starting P90X while in Korea!

I'm in a similar position as you were, I tried to start P90X and it was too much for me. I need to start something easier, loose a few pounds, then get into P90X.

I just ran 2 10 minute miles continuously with ease. I HATE to run but something just felt good and I could not tell you the last time I ran that far. Something must be working. I think I am going to stick with it.
