planning noob run part 2

Thanks for the event guys, had fun. I had the blue jeep and I was concerned about the plastic on my bumper getting shredded after watching some hard rear landings in the one obstacle course. Probably would have been fine, but didn't want to damage it. :)

I grew up farming and driving since I could reach the pedals, so I have used 4 low before, just hadn't had a reason to put the jeep in 4 low since I got it in June and definitely not used to rocky steep inclines!

thanks for coming simplyjeep. You're welcome to attend the next one if you want some more practice out there. It'll be in January.

Exciting news. I can't give away too much, but here are some plans for the future of noob runs:

** They will no longer be called Noob Runs **

They will be called the "Get To Know Your 4x4 Training day" (or something like that).

Target Audience: anyone who is interested in learning more about 4x4 and how to use their vehicle (noobs and experts alike). You will learn about the sport, how to drive your vehicle over different obstacles, and how to exercise proper land use and trail ettiquette.

Frequency: Quarterly. spring, summer, fall, winter

Venue: will change throughout the year, but MMP is the main place they'll be held

We're also trying to incorporate local 4x4 companies, clubs, and groups to be part of this, including giveaways.

Our next "Get to Know Your 4x4 Training Day" is tentatively scheduled for January at Miller Motorsports Park. I'll keep you updated as we nail down a date and details are fleshed out.

Here are some of the topics that will be covered:

- Course on how to prepare for a trip (what to bring, trail repairs, maintenance, tools, recovery, etc).

- Tips for Camping in the cold

- History of off-roading/jeeps

- intro to 4x4 opportunities in Utah taught by Kurt Williams (well worth the price of admission).

- Full Tread lightly course

- Advanced recovery winching/recovery hands-on

- advanced spotting and driving --> coned course at MMP

- How to get involved in the scene

hope you can make it. We're doing the best we can to help the 4x4 community grow here. Hopefully we can get some traction with our land use battles here.

yea, sucks that they are going around shutting down land everywhere. we had a big one shut down not to long ago in washington and they are in talks about another big one, the forest service guy though is on our side and does all he can to keep un educated wheelers on track cause he knows that if someone drives off trail or trashes the place it will be gone quickly

Give us more information and U4 will help. Have you told Don Black over in Kanab about the situation?

With all do respect Jack, the best thing U4 could do is help themselves and get things rolling smoothly and be at this run to showcase what U4 is doing and what they offer to the 4x4 comminuty. At this point I don't think we have any shortage of potential attendees, the last one was full and I expect future ones to fill from RME alone. If/when we have extra space we've identified and been offered plenty of additional markets for users. At this point the best thing any group could do is invite people to join RME and get involved in these, service projects and trail rides.

Considering the minimal cost, volunteer efforts and generosity of the industry... we need potential attendees to take a vested interest in this event and stay up to speed on RME. If it turns into a show up and spoonfeed event, thanksy can pay the price everyone else does ;)

U4 is definitely invited. We would love a strong U4 presence. The last half hour to an hour will be focused on helping wheelers take the next step. Now that everyone is better educated, what should they do next? As part of that segment, I was going to give U4 10-15 minutes at the end to explain what initiatives they've been involved with recently, what's going on now, and what's on the horizon.

Rather than focus on a sales pitch and try to get people to join, I think it'd be best for U4 to focus on how they're helping us. Then people will be able to decide if it's something they want to join or not.

I used to be of the mindset that by donating money and being a U4 member, I was helping the cause, because that's what everyone did. But I never really knew what U4 did or how my money was used to help the cause. I think this would be a great way to educate everyone on how U4 benefits our cause.

Hey steve, some of this stuff should probably go into a new thread. I just found it being bored, I never check this thread since the event has passed.

yeah, I'm ready to let this thread die. We've planned the future noob runs, so I'll just wait to talk about them 'till the dates are set in stone.

Sounds good to me. See you the 27th.

Alright guys, we need to put the planning to bed. I had some great chats with folks down at SEMA, my bossman @ MMP, Vinny & Dennis from Tera, etc. Dennis would be more than happy to help teach a class as well. Jason has been working with Vinny/Tera and others on some donor/raffle stuff, I'll let him continue to work those angles.

Suggested Deadlines:
11/15 - Instructor/Lesson Details Finalized
12/1 - Event Itinerary Finalized
12/15 - Registration Open
1/15- Registration Closed
