Thats's a great accomplishment! Congrats! So Lucas and I are not hikers. Plain and simple. We prefer horsepower to manpower. It does not help that he is only 12 years old and about 25 pounds heavier than me. Our deacons group hiked down the Mogollon Rim to Horton Springs. The trail is only 1 mile long, but drops about 1200 vertical feet. Both of us were totally done after just the decent. It took About an hour and a half to get to the springs. We hung out for a bit and eat oranges and refilled our water bottles where the spring came out of the mountain. Then we started back up. It was slow going but we made it. The “trail” is not much of anything. Rough rocks almost the entire way. We lost the trail several times. It was bad. I kept wondering if a helicopter would even be able to get to us. I walked behind him with my hands on his hips most of the time. We made it to the top in just under three hours. We gave each other a big hug and talked about doing hard things and remembering this for ever.
Us close to the trailhead. The spring was down in the valley in about the middle of this picture.
