Broncomama, I would wheel with anyone even you :) If you wheel with me that would be your call.

Hell I would LOVE to wheel with anyone... as long as they are not loud drunkards who LIKE to break their stuff. Or those guys ridiing down the trail making a mess and just being jerks!

I would even wheel with a stick rubi!

I was surprised at myself once when I was driving my friend's built TJ (ARB's, 33's or 35's, winch, sliders, doodads, etc) and I found myself almost embarrassed when we met up with some other wheelers that I wasn't in my homebrew CJ (the dilapidated infamous "Freakshow") with it's fullwidth axles and 38's. (I was driving cuz he had just had knee surgery and couldn't do the clutch, he was riding shotgun). OMG, it was a stick!

The TJ was worth several times what the CJ was, and was probably more capable in many (most?) situations. I certainly didn't anticipate my own reaction, which was that I was afraid of being seen as a "johnny come lately" or newb. I do generally judge a vehicle/driver by how it's built/driven and I know that many experienced jeepers enjoy new vehicles just like newbie webwheelers....

When my X is paid off and I buy a 4dr Rubicon and put 35's/winch/doodads on it, I wonder if I will be embarrassed that I'm not in the Green.

Naw.

I think it all comes down to attitude. You can have guys that build their rigs that are complete *icks. And the same goes for some that buy their rigs. I don't mind helping someone that doesn't work on their stuff but is willing to learn or help. They may not have the time or ability to work or build their own rig, but they have a love for wheeling. It may sound like its a pain in the butt, but i've met some of my best friends on the trail. Either them or me broke down. I built my stuff, and it may not be up to others standards but I couldn't afford to buy some thing to wheel (new). I like the satisfaction i get when i do it myself.

This is one of the most useless threads on RME. Almost as bad as the "Cody has a big head" thread.

I'll chime in though. I'm elitist buggy driver w/ an auto. Our daily driver cherokar has a standard which I've grown accustomed to. I love the auto for the rocks but it's all matter of opinion.

I just purchased a new Rubicon 6 speed for a couple of reasons. The manuals have a lower first gear, thus a lower crawl ratio. My 03 Rubicon was a manual and never let me down, I have seen auto's loose line pressure on steep inclines and just stop.

I myself prefer the auto, have crawled with both for years.. and theres nothing wrong with the stick. as far as the losing line pressure, my 42re has had that happen a couple of times in extreme angles, and my friends Rubicon cant make it out of the belly button because it sucks out of fluid on the wall, you can overfill the tranny or get a different pan and pickup to solve the problem, but it is still a problem.

Fully-manual autos w/ engine braking FTW!!!! :cody:

Werd!

I like manuals better on the street, they're so much more fun. But after missing reverse trying to back down one of the steep-ass hills out here, and freewheeling helter-skelter, the bloom kind of left that rose.

Whatever makes you happy though, if you like dealing with that extra pedal on the rocks, woo hoo. It's Amurrica damnit

Amen brutha. This has gone from Rubicons to buggies and all over the map. It's got more turns than a Senator Buttars press conference.

i'll chime in

Here I said I was going to be quiet, but I can't hold my tongue on this one. My point about rubicon's was a generalization about the attitude that I've run into with a lot of Rubicon owners. I realize that not everyone is blessed with a kick ass mechanic for a husband and that's fine. I don't think it's about the amount of money you spend, it's wheeling what you've got. What gets me is the "I drive a Buggy, therefore I'm invincible" attitude.

I see that type of attitude in lots of people driving lots of different vehicles. Personally I am just offended by being grouped into the "pretty boy" business...oh wait this is the wife's daily driver and she's--pretty. never mind:rofl:

I'm offended by Rubicon owners; the reason is its taken me a few years of learning, wrenching, switching axles, dropping the tcase for a SYE and gears, and breaking, to get a jeep that works great. Damnable Rubi owners buy one off the lot and bolt on a lift. That's irritating to me that i didn't think of it first 'cause they have a VERY capable rig off the bat :D

As for buggy owners with attitude, i have a short tale. I was on pritchett canyon in moab and a guy that's on RME with his buggy came along with another group. He didn't know i knew who he was. He was a total d***head. Yeah dude, yer buggy is going to be more capable than the rig that belongs to the guy yer yellin' at! (it wasn't herzog, he's one of the coolest dudes i know). i've always been one to help fix and help somebody, but if that dude broke i'd be like, C YA :D

They only think that because they're jealous of how much fun we have with our poor manual transmissions. ;)
