Got the body off the K5 yesterday. I will try to use some of the brackets, spring hangers and such to help reduce the amount off fabrication that will have to be done to the S10 frame.

:freak: Yeah! Early Christmas for me!

Wow! That's a small pinion gear! Any one running 5.13 gears in a front 60 ever break one?

Please don't tell me their genuine gears. I hope their yukons or something

Uh Oh! These are Genuine Gears. They were cheap and with a lifetime warranty I figured I couldn't go wrong. I've run these in my K5 for about 4 years with no problems. My buddy who works at 4 wheel parts said in order to reduce costs these gears are not pre-run at the factory so the tend to wear in a little more than other gears. I set the backlash on the tight side to help compensate for the wear and they could also be adjusted again later I guess. But it's not a big deal for me since I will put very little miles on them with mostly trail driving.

What else do you know about these gears other than the above?

Genuine Gear sucks. Yes, they have a lifetime warranty, but your going to be replacing them often. For their price, Yukon or etc is way better, even though they only have a ~1 year warranty. Bottom line all gears are junk when not setup correctly. Genuine's are just worse. They are hard to get setup correctly - even using their specs!

Too much backlash will surely kill them. Set them up with .007-8 BL and favor the TOE on the pattern...

You know you got a good set of gears when you have to set them up extra tight to work right and not fall apart. :p Hopefully nothing will happen, as just replacing the bearings after gears go bad puts you over what good gears run;)

Just got the D60 sandblasted and painted. I will be going back together with it shortly and then the real fun begins with the cab removal and frame work.

Smile Ross! :D

Some udated pics......

I got the body off the frame and all the IFS stuff removed this last week. Also got the D60 front end complete. Soon I will get some steel to start fabricating the front cross member and spring hangers.

Those S10 frames are all kinds of shapely in the front 1/3, aren't they?

Yep, I think as soon as I cut away all the IFS brackets it will begin to look a little more like what we're used to. The narrowing and widening of the frame rails in the front does make it a bit more challenging to get the front springs mounted. But I think I've got it figured out.

any updates?

I haven't done much. I only have about an hour a day and Saturdays do get anything done. I've cut all the IFS brackets off the frame and have gotten started on what is the beginning of the front cross member and spring hangers. The cross member if being fabricated from a piece of 5x5" 3/8" thick square tubing. This is bigger than I originally intended to start with but it was free, so I can make it work. I am going to get more steel tomorrow. I will post more pics of my progress soon. By the way I never claimed to be a pro fabricator, so some constructive criticism is appreciated. But you have to be nice! :)
