People that know how to build SBC's claim this claim all the time.... You should have heard my dad when I was building that BBC for my jet boat. It was like nails on a chalkboard to him!! I continued to go with the BBC because I knew of jet boats with SBC's in them that were pretty built, and there was no way I could get the performance out of SBC. If it was a prop boat, then not a problem. Jet's need lots of torque to get going and lots of hp to keep going. SBC's can't do the low end torque that a BBC can. SBC's make their HP high. ...Or at least this was all my opinion. My dad said otherwise. And that's coming from someone that is taking a Hilborn setup and making it MPFI with a Holley ProJection box! :D

And depending on how far (and what direction) into the junkyard 454 he is going to go, $6k is easy to meet. 4 bolt main BBC's aren't real common (or at least they weren't when I built this motor in Sacramento), and if you find one, they usually go for a pretty good chunk of change.

There aint no replacement for displacement.

The money is in Wayne's old motor, but I don't have a rockracer

To touch stock BB power I'll have to spend way more on the SB than I'll be into a running BB. Also, I'll be able to set this TBI SB aside to be four hundereded when I build a buggy. when the weight will be an important factor.
