There aint no replacement for displacement.

The money is in Wayne's old motor, but I don't have a rockracer

To touch stock BB power I'll have to spend way more on the SB than I'll be into a running BB. Also, I'll be able to set this TBI SB aside to be four hundereded when I build a buggy. when the weight will be an important factor.

That was my opinion when I was checking prices, too... But my dad kept on insisting... I was really surprised when he said he was impressed with that motor after it was done and actually went for a ride!

Wow, Keel is a real live wire tonight! I'm impressed... but not that much. ;)

Big blocks rule and that's all there is to it. Torque is king, and small blocks can't come close in the RPM ranges trail trucks get used in. So there!

That's a sweet motor, Wayner. If I had the 67 Impala I want, I'd seriously consider that thing. But I don't. Nor do I have $6k for a motor. :D

SO, just exactly HOW MUCH power DOES it take to drive that truck around??? I mean, is your goal to break everything or drive your truck at .275 MPH over rocks? There are times when power is needed and times when it will only cause you greif. Ultimately, it is your truck and you should do what you want, I just think BB's are best suited for race cars and hauling heavy loads. JMO
Just be sure to do it next WINTER, its time to go wheeling now.

Depends on your philosophy, IMO. Weight be damned, or light an nimble. I guess you could ride the fence on either of those. There is no way I'd be happy with a small block in the pig I'm building. And I wouldn't probably need a big block if I had a Zuki buggy or something, either.

Meat's heap o' poo pipe is probably right on the line, but the torque of the big block is way too sweet to pass up. I know it was nice riding in Shawn's forkli... Cruiser. Idling up stuff with all the torque, and reasonable gearing.

Actually, that brings me to another point: gearing. I'm going to swap a 454 into my Blazer when I can. That way I can run taller gears for DD duty and not stress out so much.

eh, I think I'm just firmly rooted in the Torque>weight savings camp LOL
